We currently have an opportunity to join our nurse management team as an Assistant Director of Nursing at our 92-bed facility, located in Manchaca, TX (just south of Austin), where we provide nursing support to an extremely unique population of individuals primarily with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
This population makes working at the Villa a much different experience than working at any other nursing facility in the greater Austin area – in the U.S. there are only a handful of nursing facilities that cater primarily to a special needs population.
The Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Director of Nursing Services in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Service Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility. Will be directed by the Administrator, the Medical Director, and/or the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities for the Assistant Director of Nursing:
- Assist in supervising the assignment and scheduling of nursing staff to meet resident needs
- Provides nursing care on shift when needed
- Oversees infection control and surveillance program
- In conjunction with medical provider and wound specialist, monitor all wounds and implement education focused on prevention measures for wound management
- Assist in supervising the maintenance of records of nursing, medical and related services
- Assist in validating the accuracy of MDS’s and Care Plans
- Assist with interviewing, hiring and orienting of new nursing staff
- Assists the Director of Nursing Services in the design, implementation and evaluation of nursing systems that ensure consistent delivery of care and maintains and promotes resident rights
- Assists the Director of Nursing in the development, implementation and evaluation of facility policies, procedures and guidelines on an annual and on-going basis (i.e. nursing, pharmacy, lab, physicians, medical records, etc.)
- Participates in facility’s quality improvement programs
- Conducts in-service and orientation programs
- Reviews monthly physician orders
- As requested, assist with DON responsibilities
- Participate in on-call rotation to manage staffing, clinical, and administrative concerns
Requirements for the Assistant Director of Nursing:
- Two (2) years previous experience in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care setting required
- Two (2) years previous nursing experience, preferably working with the intellectual and developmental disabilities population
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Certified
- Experience in quality assurance and advanced training in infection control procedures
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Must be knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative and restorative nursing procedures, laws and regulations and guidelines governing long-term care
- Diligent in skin care integrity and wound care.
- Proficient in providing care for central and peripheral IVs and G-tubes
