Provides lead worker assistance for a medium to large crew or to a number of various crews which may include performing different tasks including but not limited to: forestry and park maintenance operations; routine to complex street repair projects; or operating and maintaining lake spillway gates.

Overview
The Forestry Crew Leader provides lead worker assistance staff and crews performing forestry and related work activities for the City and its public works department.
Essential Functions
1 Organizes, prepares, and issues daily work assignments for crewmembers or other lower level crew leaders; ensures work procedures are followed safely and efficiently and work is completed properly.
2 Provides assistance and technical expertise as it pertains to tree maintenance and ensure trees are kept in tip top health for a better environment and safe for the public.
3 Works with lower level crew leaders or along with crewmembers; sets the pace of work; provides on-site job and safety training and explains/demonstrates proper, safe and efficient work methods; ensures all plans, materials, tools, and supplies are available for crewmembers.
4 Obtains required information or decisions from supervisors as needed; keeps records of expenses, work orders, schedules, and attendance of daily activities; follows specifications for trees, shrubs, and other woody plants and standards for safety in the field of arboriculture.
5 Performs or leads preventative maintenance and minor repairs to equipment; checks for cleanliness of tools and equipment; assigns clean-up activities around the work site to leave premises clean and safe.
6 Drives and operates City trucks to transport workers, materials, and equipment to and from jobsite.
7 Handles and responds to citizen complaints or concerns; facilitates prompt, timely, and efficient solutions.
8 Perform all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 General Arboriculture methods and tree maintenance and care
2 Knowledge of the use and care of hand and power tools, such as jackhammer, cement mixer, and power auger.
3 Knowledge of surface preparation and adaptability of various surface materials.
4 May require standard colors, configuration, and placement of lane markings and traffic signs.
5 Knowledge of custodial, carpentry, plumbing, painting, mechanics, landscaping, and specialized equipment.
6 Ability to receive and transmit to crewmembers oral and written instructions.
7 Ability to perform math calculations. Read charts and maintain written records.
8 Ability to lead crewmembers in the performance of a variety of heavy manual labor for extended periods.
9 Ability to lift and work with heavy equipment.
10 Establish and maintain strong working relationships.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:

High school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE:
-
Three (3) years of experience in arboricultural or landscaping operations that included tree planting/maintenance.
LICENSE:
-
Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Must obtain a Texas class A or B commercial driver’s license (CDL) within probationary period.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Subject to various shifts.
