Communications Manager
Reports to: Director of Advancement
St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is seeking a creative, organized, team-oriented Communications Manager to ensure forward progress in all aspects of the school’s internal and external communications and marketing initiatives. This is an in-person, critical role in a fast-paced Advancement Office with a family-first mentality and a collegial team environment.
The Communications Manager is responsible for creative services, online/electronic internal and external communications and marketing at St. Andrew’s. This includes implementation of annual communications and marketing plans that define our strategic efforts to promote St. Andrew’s. The Communications Manager will provide counsel and create and undertake plans to deliver key messages, ensure consistency and continuity, and reinforce the mission and goals of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School.
Communications
- Help develop a strategic communications plan in concert with the Director of Advancement that supports internal and external communications efforts, incorporating consistent themes that support the strategic initiatives and priorities as established by the Head of School and Board of Trustees.
- Establish and monitor all mediums of communications (web, social, print, email) and ensure that all constituencies receive timely and up-to-date information
- Manages St. Andrew’s internet presence, including the external facing website, internal community platform other social networking sites (primarily Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn and YouTube)
- Coordinates content and distribution, and manages all web-based communications - including managing a weekly blog - for external constituencies via www.sasaustin.org and serves as the liaison to outside vendors of web-based and print vendors
- Maintains, prioritizes, and implements, in concert with the Director of Technology and Director of Advancement, overall project list for website planning, upgrades, and on-going requests.
- Works with the Gift Officers on the Advancement team to coordinate print and electronic communications where needed, particularly during capital campaign efforts.
- Manages the collection of photographs and videos for the school’s website.
- Produces all publications and published materials, including The Highlander Magazine (produced bi-annually – digital and print), the monthly St. Andrew’s community newsletter, and information resources for web-posting such as the student handbook and directory.
- Assess and pursue marketing, external relations, media relations and advertising opportunities, including developing an advertising schedule in conjunction with Admissions, writing press releases, posting news online and through social media, and cultivating relationships with local media for positive news coverage
- Working with the Director of Admissions, the Communications Manager will assist with the production of Admissions collateral material to assure visual and editorial consistency.
- S/he will lend counsel and assistance in the production of collateral material for initiatives and major school events on both campuses.
- Works closely with the Director of Events & Brand Design to ensure brand consistency throughout all communications, both print and digital
- Other duties as needed
The Communications Manager should have:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or a related field.
- Five-plus years of relevant full-time experience with public relations, writing, editing and publications project management in a corporate or educational setting.
- Excellent writing, speaking and editing skills
- Experience creating and posting content to social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn and YouTube)
- Familiarity with AP style guide
- Some design experience preferred (Adobe Creative Suite)
- Content management system experience preferred
- A creative and proactive spirit that amplifies St. Andrew’s Episcopal School across all platforms
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, allowing one to work effectively with colleagues and constituents, solve problems and represent St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in the community.
