The Spring Hill School is seeking a dynamic music educator to lead our middle school music program (3rd-8th grade) through various musical experiences such as enrichment, rock band, choral classes, movement, playing instruments, and performing. We are looking to fill this position for the 2024-2025 school year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Are you passionate about nurturing young minds through the power of music? We're looking for an extraordinary music teacher to inspire elementary and middle school students by delivering engaging and balanced music lessons.
- As our music teacher, you'll introduce fundamental music skills, including rhythm, melody, harmony, and notation, through hands-on instruction on instruments like piano, ukulele, guitar, other string instruments, and percussion.
- You will lead our budding musicians in choir, band, or orchestra rehearsals, preparing them for performances that showcase their burgeoning talents.
- You'll weave music theory, history, and appreciation into your lesson plans, creating a rich tapestry of learning that resonates with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Your role extends beyond the classroom as you adapt teaching methods to meet every student's needs, develop a dynamic music curriculum, and assess progress with a keen and encouraging eye.
- You will collaborate with fellow educators to bring music into interdisciplinary projects.
- As a key player in our school's community, you'll manage extracurricular music activities, from concerts to competitions, and maintain our collection of instruments and music materials.
- You will establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances that is conducive to effective teaching and joyful learning.
- You'll also communicate with parents and staff, ensuring everyone is attuned to our students' musical journeys.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Minimum BA in Music or Music Education or similar; MA preferred
- Ability to inspire and motivate students to develop their musical talents
- Patience, creativity, and flexibility in adapting teaching strategies to meet individual student needs
- Prior experience teaching children, preferably in a teaching capacity, and knowledge of child development
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and community members
- Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels
- Proficiency in playing and teaching multiple musical instruments
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices in music education
- Collaborate with the Head of School, Division Director, and other faculty and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings, and seasonal programs.
- Teachers with Orff, Kodaly, or Dalcroze training are strongly encouraged to apply
