Davenport AmeriCorps Program Purpose: Davenport AmeriCorps is part of a network of local, state, and national service programs that connect over 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet community needs. Serving in AmeriCorps provides unique, hands-on experience in the social and human services, as well as professional development skills. AmeriCorps members network and foster connections with their community while obtaining funding for educational expenses and building their resume. The City of Davenport AmeriCorps program supports K-12 students by committing an AmeriCorps member’s time to foster civic engagement, mentorship, academic, and social supports.
Agency Description: Davenport Parks and Recreation (DPR) offers a variety of recreation programs throughout the year, including seasonal events, activities, and classes for the entire family. DPR Events & Trails strives to provide programming that benefits the community with enriching experiences and events year-round.
Description of anticipated service schedule: 900 hours. Minimum of 22 hours per week. Member anticipated service schedule Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am – 5pm. Member will flex their service hour schedule as necessary.
Position Specifics:
1) Produce three outreach events for the community focused on youth education in Davenport throughout term of service
o Develop a theme
o Procure supplies needed (in-house inventory, informing site supervisor of what is required and needs to be ordered)
o Contact vendors (current vendors as well as new)
o Design and distribute information for the event (i.e. onesheets)
o Set up and tear down locations at the events
2) Attend outreach events for the community focused on providing youth education in Davenport:
o Picnic in the Park – Vander Veer Botantical Park (during regular hours)

o Fejervary Family Fun Day – Fejervary Learning Center (10am—3pm)
o City of Davenport Night at the River Bandits – Modern Woodman Ballpark (5pm-8pm)
o Party in the Parks – Various Facilities and Parks (4pm-6pm)
o Red White and Boom – LeClaire Park (4pm-10pm)
o YouthFest – Fejervary Park and Fejervary Learning Center (6:30am-1pm)

Desired Skills/Qualifications:
· Background in the field of education, recreation, human service, or related field
· Experience working with children and families preferred
Eligibility Criteria:
· Certify that they have or will obtain a diploma/GED before the service contract start date
· Be 17 years or older at the start of service (no upper age limit)
· Pass a national service criminal history check prior to first day of service
· Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US national, or Lawful Permanent Resident
