SUMMARY RESPONSIBILITES
Manages and coordinates the daily work and development of the engineering staff. Emphasis is placed on the management of lead-times, meeting deadlines for the handoff of designs to manufacturing, improving capacity and throughput in the department, cost reductions and the quality of designs. Must ensure our processes are followed and yield the desired results; timely and quality designs. Assist in assessing product line expansions and new product opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following.
· Assess design staff, define appropriate training requirements and conduct annual reviews
· Develop and modify practices and processes to improve effectiveness and efficiencies
· Ensure a consistent design approach and appropriate specification of materials
· Research and define root cause of poor quality and rework; minimizing future rework
· Ensure timely and accurate release of designs from engineering
· Interact with customer and sales to discuss and evaluate design needs or changes in designs
· Supervise electrical engineers and draftsman working on multiple projects
-Help them to improve their skills and to work more efficiently
-Encourage and reward their input on suggestions for the department
· Estimate engineering design time required for and schedule projects to meet:
· PLC Programming – Rockwell Automaton/Allen Bradley is required. Other platforms are a plus.
· HMI - PanelView Plus, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, Wonderware
· Calculate and analyze power requirements, fuse and overload sizes
· Managing a project to a successful completion
· Control panel design and testing. Knowledge of common controls hardware
· Implement industrial networks with devices such as VFDs, load cells, etc.
· Knowledge of NFPA and UL standards pertaining to electrical panels and control systems
· Safety circuit design and familiarity with Performance Levels
· Knowledge of pneumatic devices and circuits is a plus.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job supervises the electrical associates. Manager is responsible for overall direction, coordination, motivation and periodic evaluations of associates including interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing, appraising performance, addressing concerns and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, plus a minimum of eight years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPUTER / PC SKILLS
Associate must possess literacy in AutoCAD 3D design software, as well as, an ability to effectively utilize MS Word, MS Excel and MS Mail / Exchange. Associate is expected to develop appropriate knowledge of our MRP system as required to perform his/her duties.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, interpret and apply technical data, drawings and reports to the design of packaging equipment and change parts as would be expected within the packaging and design profession. Ability to effectively respond to inquiries from customers, vendors, other associates and members of the packaging, design and business community.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply common mathematical / engineering concepts required, including concepts such as voltage and amperage requirements, control logic, to practical design situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to appropriately interpret technical data, anticipate design issues such as interferences and provide appropriate coaching and development to associates. Ability to apply principles of logic and/or scientific thinking to a variety of problems and situations, as well as, to deal with abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
A professional certification such as a Professional Engineering Degree and active participation in a trade related association is preferred but not required.
