The CNA is responsible for providing medical support to IHW participants in the residential program. Primary duties include Checking vital signs, weight and record information when required by Registered Nurse, Observe resident’s and children and note physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc. and report any changes to nurse. Conduct a random, hourly bedroom check daily. Compile client charts, including intake and interview forms, within 24 hours of admission. Assemble charts according to an approved format and review forms for completion. All duties as assigned by the Community Health Nurse.
The individual in this position must be able to provide an emotionally safe environment for women recovering from substance use, trauma and/or co-occurring disorders, as well as working in a therapeutic community residential treatment program for women and their children.
Responsibilities:
- Security of the community at all times
- Check vital signs, weight and record information when required by Registered Nurse
- Observe resident’s and children and note physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc. and report any changes to nurse
- Conduct a random, hourly bedroom check daily
- Observe Resident Rights
- Maintain therapeutic environment
- Assist in preparation units for new admissions
- Attend weekly supervisions
- Answer calls from Registered Nurse/LPN when needed
- Provide adjunct care for the participants, including ice packs, and heat packs
- Monitor and assist with meals, snacks during scheduled mealtimes
- Adhere to professional standards, follow policies and procedures and abide by federal, state and local requirements
- Supervise adherence to rules and resident’s attendance at activities
- Log in new resident’s belongings as well as any items received for residents during business hours
- Receive a daily report and logbook from staff member from previous shift
- Maintain a daily log of all activities occurring during shift and provided a verbal report to incoming staff
- Participate in program evaluation process as necessary, including data collection
- Contact the on-call staff person or Community Nurse/RN or Program Director (in cases of emergency) for instructions on weekend and weeknights
- Attend monthly Nursing staff meetings with Community Health Nurse
- Accept and record all telephone calls between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. weekdays and during the weekends
- Oversee the preparations for the AA/NA in-house meetings on the assigned evening
- Meet, greet and sign-in visitors
- Monitor visits by outside family members or friends
- Maintain building security
Clerical:

Qualifications: Minimum
- High School Diploma and have a current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in Pennsylvania
- Successfully complete a state approved nurse’s aide-training program
- Basic understand of medical terminology as it relevant to job duties and responsibilities
- Knowledge of alcoholism and other addictions and the special needs of addicted women
- The ability to set consistent, fair limits when appropriate, while maintaining a sensitive and supportive attitude in relation to residents
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and to handle multiple tasks safely and effectively
- Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive information with empathy
- High tolerance for working under pressure and handling critical situations
- Ability to act as a role model for the residents
Requirements:
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
- CNA Certification in Pennsylvania
Hourly Rate:
- Starts at $15/hr, based on experience
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
- This position is classified as salaried non-exempt in accordance to FLSA standards
