Hourly Range:
Detention Officer Trainee+: $23.28 - $31.08 per hour
Detention Transport Officer+: $26.14 - $34.89 per hour
This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education and training as determined by the hiring authority.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience:
Detention Officer Trainee+:
Experience working in a law enforcement environment directly related to the core functions of this position is preferred.
Detention Transport Officer+:
Requires six months of either full-time Adult Corrections/ Detention Officer or law enforcement experience.
Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Education:
Both Levels:
Requires the equivalent to a high school diploma or G.E.D.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
Detention Officer Trainee+:
- Successfully complete a city specified Corrections/Detention Officer certification training program prior to completing initial probation.
Detention Transport Officer+:
- Possession of valid AZ Driver’s License
- Possession of Corrections/Detention Officer Certification from a federal, state, or county training facility or possession of a federal or state law enforcement certification from a certified federal or state training facility. Proof of certification is required at the time of application.
- Possession of or required to obtain within one (1) year of promotion or hire the Arizona P.O.S.T. Firearm Certification.
- Possession of or required to obtain within one (1) year of promotion or hire the Armed Civilian Transport training.
Proof of Certification as a Corrections/Detention Officer from a federal, state or county training facility is required at the time of application or possession of a federal or state law enforcement certification from a certified federal or state training facility. Proof of Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer is required at the time of application
