We are seeking a thoughtful, creative, and competent cook who can work in an environment, where they will become part of a community. The right candidate will be able to work independently in the preparation of breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a household of 15-25 people. They will also be part of a team caring for adults who are seeking clinical care in a therapeutic setting at our Second Spring facility.
The cook position reports directly to the Program's Operations Manager. The schedule is Wednesday to Saturday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
This position is critical to organizational culture, maintaining and building upon the organization’s skills and knowledge, and its consistent alignment with CSC's mission to create caring communities where people seeking mental health find hope, compassion, and excellent clinical care.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for all aspects of meal preparation including assisting in menu planning, shopping, ordering, maintaining inventory, cooking, preparing, and serving food.
- Prepares meals with a focus on health and nutrition including working with residents who have special dietary needs.
- Works with residents and staff to offer kitchen-related vocational and learning opportunities for residents such as providing instruction and teaching to residents the proper methods and techniques of food preparation, cooking, and serving.
- Observes best practices and sanitary guidelines in all phases of food handling.
- Works with the Program Manager and Nutrition Coordinator to stay within the budgetary guidelines set forth for the kitchen and meals.
- Researches and utilizes opportunities for nutrition-related resources such as local farms and food banks.
- Prepares reports regarding meals served, kitchen refuse, food and supply records, and such other reports as may be required.
- Must maintain a secure kitchen area, ensuring all kitchen equipment and resources are present and accounted for.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of current nutrition principles, and procedures, basic food preparation skills, and ability to provide direct nutrition services.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of modern methods used in volume foodservice and volume food preparation.
- Knowledge of health, sanitary, and safety practices involved in cooking.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work independently.
- Ability to work long hours while standing under conditions of high heat and humidity.
- Ability to lift 25-50 lbs.
Education:
- High School graduate or GED plus four years of experience working in volume cooking.
- Completion of a high school level culinary arts career preparation program or a formal course in commercial food preparation may be substituted for experience.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
