Front Office Receptionist are responsible for answering incoming calls, greeting our patients and their families, insurance verification as needed, copay collection, multitasking documenting changes to patient demographics as well as recording incoming phone messages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patient intake at front desk while providing assistance in scheduling appointments, patient registration, medical chart maintenance and the coordination of patient referrals.
- Greet patients and visitors in a courteous, professional manner and verify patient information to be correct and complete.
- Coordinate and schedule surgery appointments for physicians at the ambulatory surgery center.
- Register the patients, while ensuring that all demographic information is current.
- Ensure that required documents are received and entered in the patient’s record, such as physician orders, result of patient history, physical exams, advance directives, patient bill of rights and notice of ownership disclosure.
- Create, file and retrieve patient charts as needed, ensuring proper security measures are followed to maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
- Answer non-medical questions and give routine non-medical instructions.
- Ensure appropriate patient signatures are secured for the informed consents prior to service being rendered.
- Ensure that referrals are available and, if required, coordinate the exchange of patient data with referral sources.
- Answer incoming telephone calls, handle calls if applicable and otherwise routing calls to the appropriate party or take messages.
- Collect, verify and enter into the applicable system, all insurance and third party resources for payment.
- Communicate with patient regarding patient’s financial responsibility and collect money, such as copayments, for the procedures.
- Conduct reminder calls prior to procedures.
- May escort patients throughout the center to insure proper office flow.
- Understand and abide by all HIPPAA policies and procedures.
- Maintain inventory of office supplies.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e. patient body fluids, disinfectant chemicals).
QUALIFICATIONS: High school education or equivalent.
- Must be competent in the use of basic office equipment including computer, printer, telephone and fax.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively and remain professional while interacting with patients and/or family members.
- Must possess excellent clerical and organizational skills.
