Summary & Scope:
Director of Events and Engagement creates long-term, meaningful, and trusting relationships with our members. In this role, you will report to the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and manage events team members, overseeing the successful execution of a diverse portfolio of Chamber events. The Director of Events and Engagement provides member value, high energy, and inspiring leadership through the planning and execution of events critical to the mission and success of the Chamber.
The main charge of the Director of Events and Engagement will be to curate the public experience with the Chamber, with a focus on generating revenue through events sponsorships and registrations. Successful candidates must identify opportunities for collective learning and engagement between members, non-members, and all stakeholders with the Chamber, understanding topics and issues important to the business community with the ability to turn those topics into revenue-generating events.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Provide Event Management: Set direction and leadership with events team to envision, develop, plan, and execute Chamber events to meet/exceed revenue goals, engage members and prospective members, and further the Chamber’s mission.
· Demonstrate Innovative Leadership: Drive the development and implementation of strategies, solutions, and initiatives to increase revenue, enhance efficiencies, and improve the member experience as well to deliver value to members, non-members, and external stakeholders.
· Develop Strategic Revenue Generation: Formulate and execute new sales and marketing strategies to provide value to members and drive revenue for the Chamber.
· Implement operational excellence by developing strategic and tactical policies, procedures, and processes, including comprehensive event plans to maximize member value and Chamber revenue.
· Liaise with other Chamber departments, including Public Affairs (Communications and Marketing), Government Affairs, Facilities, and Finance to develop event agendas, secure locations, recruit speakers, promote registration, and develop and process sponsorships.
· Lead team: Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to influence the team’s performance through coaching and mentoring, scheduling and managing team meetings, upholding team member accountability, and resolving issues giving rise to conflicts within the team. Involved in hiring and terminating decisions.
· Monitor team progress and submit performance reports to leadership as requested.
· Control budgets and allocate resources for fiscal oversight.
· Manage team commitment to database integrity.
· Execute other duties and projects assigned by Senior Vice President of Public Affairs in support of Chamber mission and goals.
Education and/or Experience:
- Proven event management experience (6-10 years), knowledge, and professional demeanor in partnership development, business development, and account management with a bachelor’s degree required or experience equivalent.
- Proven track record in taking initiative and successfully executing member/client facing projects with a high attention to detail.
- A self-starter, hands-on, organized, problem-solving person with the ability to lead multiple tasks and priorities with an ability to learn how to use new tools and programs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration, team building, problem solving, listening and relationship building.
- Have strong communication, verbal and written, skills.
- Experience in developing programs and processes that deliver excellent member/client service.
- Experience managing existing relationships and creating new ones.
- Member-centric approach combining analytical, creative, and strategic thinking.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment and meet regular deadlines.
- Comfortable working remotely within a technical environment and through technical solutions
Flexibility with work hours and travel as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
