POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a dual position (full time), split as 24 hours per week as a Registered Nurse and 12 hours per week as an Infection Control and Employee Health Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for professional growth, where you will develop new skills in the growing field of infection prevention while still maintaining clinical competence. Please see below for a more detailed description of both parts of this position.
Registered Nurse
The RN will practice within the legal framework as defined by the Nursing Practice Act of New Jersey for Registered Nurses. The RN is responsible for adhering to the Scope and Standards of nursing practice as defined by the American Nurses Association (General, Rehabilitation, and Pediatric).
The Pediatric Rehabilitation RN possesses the specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide patient care and pediatric rehabilitation nursing services to children with physical and /or developmental disability and chronic illness He/She maintains professional practice standards by providing nursing interventions that meet individual needs and are consistent with the total rehabilitation program. He/She performs hands-on nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to achieve quality outcomes for the patient. He/She provides direction and supervision of ancillary nursing personnel, demonstrates professional judgment, uses problem solving techniques and time-management principles, and delegates appropriately. The RN coordinates nursing care activities in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to facilitate achievement of overall goals.
The RN coordinates total nursing care for his/her patient assignment, initiates and participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working collaboratively with other disciplines on the rehabilitation team in maintaining optimal standards of patient care. Supervises and delegates appropriate functions to the LPN’s and NA’s. They ensure that delegated functions are appropriately carried out. They may be designated as team captain/charge nurse. They are responsible for providing pediatric rehabilitation nursing input at team conferences and family meetings.
Infection Control / Employee Health Assistant
Assists in the planning, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the Infection Control and Employee Health Programs. Provides support to the Employee Health / Infection Control Department by performing tasks including, but not limited to:
- Provides education and training to healthcare personnel on infection control practices such as hand hygiene and appropriate use of personal protective equipment
- Assists in monitoring and auditing compliance with infection control policies
- Assists in surveillance to identify healthcare-associated infections
- Acts as a liaison with the local public health department in reporting infectious disease/infections
- Provides clinical guidance on infection control and occupational health issues
- Schedules occupational health appointments
- Assists in data collection
- Data entry
- Filing
- Other duties, as assigned by the Employee Health / Infection Control Coordinator
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Nursing Licensure by the New Jersey Board of Nursing
- CPR certified
- Basic competence in Microsoft Office, Excel, and other technology
- Good organizational skills
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- 1 year prior experience in pediatrics and or rehabilitation nursing preferred
- Infection Control experience is not required
- Will consider New Graduates
