Production Supervisor
DS Smith is a leading provider of corrugated packaging and are present in 37 countries, employing around 27,000 people. We are seeking a 1st Shift Production Supervisor.
Role Overview:
Oversee and manage all aspects of converting operations, including safety, quality, productivity and waste.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Lead department in meeting and exceeding productivity and quality standards.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Promote a success-driven culture of caring and pride across the department and the plant.
- Manage employee performance, including regular monitoring and feedback, coaching and disciplinary action.
- Assist in new hire orientation and training, including cross-training within the department.
- Plan work effectively and coordinate with other departments to minimize downtime and waste.
- Communicate with the maintenance department to facilitate safe and efficient operation of all equipment.
- Participate in meetings and initiatives on a plant level.
- Manage employee timecards, time off requests, and other payroll-related items.
- Submit timely and thorough reports relative to department and plant activities.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Provides EHS Support and Leadership:
- Works with employees and local leadership to drive continual improvement and routine management of the the EHS Program.
- Managers EHS initiatives and Action Plans as required.
- Develops, facilitates, and ensures all training requirements are met.
- Maintains communication with local leadership and HSE Manager.
- Ensures all incidents are investigated and action items are completed.
- Be a leader in developing a mature safety culture and ensure employees are effectively engaged.
Qualification and Experience:
- A Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the corrugated or packaging industries
- Must be knowledgeable of corrugated manufacturing practices, procedures, and the quality process.
- A minimum of 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Knowledge of computer and Microsoft suite.
- Knowledge of packaging-specific platforms a plus.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, motivate and direct employees.
- Troubleshoot root causes of machine problems.
- Demonstrate knowledge of paper weights, size, liner, medium, kraft, white, and special exceptions.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of customer requirement recognizing what is conforming and nonconforming material.
- Demonstrate ability to read a production schedule including special instructions.
