Our fantastic legal team is hiring anAttorney IV (or III) to act as lead attorney. Although this position does not involve supervising attorney staff, you will have the opportunity to mentor and guide attorneys as necessary.
This position can be filled in our Santa Ana, Sacramento, Glendale or Pleasanton locations.
This position has an option to telework and is subject to change based on State Fund guidelines and business needs.
Under the direction and supervision of an Assistant Chief Counsel, you will…
- Handle employment-related cases before State and Federal courts and administrative agencies such as State Personnel Board, Civil Rights Department, EEOC, and DLSE
- Provide legal advice and counsel to State Fund Executives, Managers, and their subordinates, and Human Resources department regarding employment and workplace issues such as hiring, progressive discipline, terminations, accommodations, discrimination, and harassment
- Represent State Fund in handling/litigating complex, sensitive, and difficult civil cases and/or corporate advice and assignments necessary to defend and reduce State Fund’s legal exposure
Desired Qualifications
- Substantial litigation experience in the employment law practice area
- A proven track record of serving as lead counsel in trials before State or Federal Courts, including jury trials
- The ability to independently handle and litigate complex civil cases and corporate matters
- Experience handling difficult legal matters with specialization
- Skilled in navigating multiple forums and jurisdictions
- Experience providing legal advice, representation, and training to high-level executives, internal partners, and other state departments
- Exceptional proficiency in legal research and analysis
- Proven leadership abilities, including mentoring and guiding junior legal staff
- Experience handling cases with significant impact on the organization’s business environment, including those with high stakes, complexity, or media exposure

CLASSIFICATION: Attorney IV or Attorney III depending on experience
SALARY: Attorney IV ($11,644 - $14,945), Attorney III ($10,536-$13,526) per month depending on experience
