CAMP RANGER JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a skilled Property Manager to oversee our Bloomington, Indiana based camp with over 600 acres and dozens of buildings located on Lake Monroe and surrounded by the Hoosier National Forest. The Camp Ranger will live on camp property in provided housing, with periodic trips to our headquarters in Indianapolis and other camp properties throughout central Indiana.
The Camp Ranger maintains and manages the camp’s facilities, grounds, and equipment. They oversee the day-to-day operation of the camp’s physical infrastructure, including buildings, trails, campsites, and recreational areas. The Camp Ranger plays a crucial role in ensuring that the camp environment is safe, clean, and conducive to the Scouts’ outdoor experiences. They work closely with camp staff, volunteers, and local resources to uphold the BSA’s commitment to environmental conservation and outdoor ethics.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facility Maintenance - responsible for maintenance, repair, and cleanliness of buildings, cabins, latrines, and program areas
- Grounds Management - maintain trails, campsites, waterfront areas and outdoor spaces
- Equipment Management - manage the inventory, maintenance, and repair of camp equipment such as tools, vehicles, boats, and recreational gear
- Emergency Preparedness - develop and implement emergency action plans
- Training and Leadership- provide training and guidance to seasonal staff, volunteers, and youth members
- Customer Service - provide friendly and responsive customer service to camp visitors and staff, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly
- Reporting - documentation of maintenance activities, equipment inventories, safety inspections, and environmental initiatives
- Budget Management
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- High School Degree or equivalent - additional training or experience preferred
- Maintenance skills in plumbing, electricity, and woodworking
- Computer proficiency including previous experience with Microsoft Office Suite and online applications
- Ability to build confidence and team spirit with volunteers and staff
- Possess a positive and professional attitude
- Strategic thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills
- Ability to live onsite and be on call for camp needs
