A lumber and building products manufacturer-distributor with headquarters in Cortland, NY and additional locations in three states is seeking an experienced Sales & Business Development Manager.
Position Details
This is a leadership and a sales position – the Manager will be responsible for establishing new accounts in his/her dedicated territory. In addition, the Manager will lead the sales team through hands-on, proactive management. The Manager will set individual and team goals, track progress, and provide feedback to all sales team members. The Manager will also create and implement marketing initiatives; develop and execute strategies to maintain and grow market share and market capture in existing and new target territories; and identify and pursue opportunities to streamline sales operations, departmentally and interdepartmentally.
Principal Responsibilities
- Establish and track sales objectives; develop annual sales plans for all territories; project expected sales volume and profit.
- Work alongside ownership, other managers, and department heads to guide and coordinate departmental, interdepartmental, and company strategy.
- Maintain and adjust pricing, product mix, and marketing strategy in accordance with supply and demand, market trends, economic indicators, and competition.
- Recruit, train, instruct, observe, and counsel sales team members; plan, monitor, and appraise job results.
- Initiate sales operational requirements; schedule and deploy team members; follow up on progress and results.
- Maintain excellent product and technical knowledge; attend trade shows and educational workshops; review professional publications; establish networks; participate in professional groups.
- Maintain an ongoing understanding of corporate policy and procedure, clarifying the foregoing with ownership and the human resources department when questions arise.
- Conduct performance evaluations and, when necessary, initiate improvement plans; track paid time-off; delegate tasks; provide on-the-job training; guide team members; institute disciplinary action; and interview candidates for open positions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in sales required
- Five or more years of experience leading an outside sales team highly preferred
- Significant sales experience in the lumber industry highly preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel; PowerPoint required
- Knowledge of inventory management required
- Exceptional communication skills and proactive attitude with excellent attention to detail
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $120,000.00 - $240,000.00 per year
