McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), non-tenure instructional track Assistant Professor in the Office of Educational Programs. The selected candidate will contribute to the department’s mission of providing administrative oversight and management for all aspects of undergraduate medical education (UME) for the Doctor of Medicine Program.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Faculty Position - Program Assessment
The incumbent will oversee all aspects of evaluations and assessments for the undergraduate medical education program and is responsible for supporting activities related to academic and program review, helping the program to develop a culture of continuous quality improvement through leadership, collaboration, strategic visioning, data-informed decision making, and consistency.
This position will report directly to the Vice Dean of Educational Programs and work closely with education Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, faculty, and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to all aspects of high-quality assessment leading to the MD degree. This includes assessments that are formative and summative, course-based, phase and longitudinal based, and standardized patient-based. Lead the development, organization, analysis, and reporting/communication of student learning outcomes. Collaborates on the development of systems, policies, and procedures related to quizzes and examinations, education assignments, question banks, exam grading system, evaluation instruments/tools, and surveys.
- Supervises program manager responsible for working with faculty to create formative and summative examinations in the pre-clerkship phase.
- Proactively directs and supervises the data collection, analysis, and reporting of medical school teaching and course evaluations, phase evaluations, and administrative support services in order to inform robust program evaluation and imbue a culture of continuous quality improvement.
- Prepare assessment accreditation reports for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and other accrediting agencies, as well as reports for various stakeholders.
- Develops, implements, and maintains standards of practice that guide establishment of protocols and procedures for data collection and interpretation. Designs and manages analyses to ensure accuracy of all evaluation data and reports. Implements processes to encourage first-time quality, reproducibility, and sustainability of data/reports. Maintains, preserves, and protects the integrity and confidentiality of data and their sources.
- Consults and collaborates with faculty to design and conduct medical education/curricular research projects through the analysis of evaluation and assessment data.
- Partners on grant writing efforts to support medical education research initiatives. Provides expertise in research methodology (research design and methods, survey methodology, data collection/analysis) to new and existing research studies.
- Promotes medical education scholarship through presentation at national and local conferences.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in education, psychology, sociology, statistics, or other relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated skills in research and administrative software applications, including SPSS or other statistical software; web-based applications; survey software; Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional time management, organizational skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines.
- Accessible and flexible with superlative interpersonal skills that permit him/her to work independently as well as in a team environment, to establish credibility with staff at all levels, various disciplines and backgrounds, and to be persuasive in both one-to-one and group settings.
- Commitment to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in sharing of information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Expertise in program evaluation, assessment, data analysis, and educational outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with members of the university community including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and accreditors.
- Ability to synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and prepare and present reports effectively.
- Knowledge and understanding of integrated program planning, development, and administration within higher education.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Two or more years of experience in higher education.
- Knowledge of medical education teaching and assessment trends.
- Established understanding of educational research design and methods.
- Expertise in learner-based assessments, including developing or testing assessment tools and strategies, and scholarly work in the area.
