Job Overview
Under the guidance of the site supervisor, the Kindergarten Coordinator will recruit, interview, train, and support staff to work with children in the kindergarten grade at four program sites to expand the current Kindergarten after-school program. The Kindergarten Coordinator will communicate with site supervisors, families, and school professionals to produce developmentally appropriate after-school enrichment, curriculum, and behavior plans for kindergarten students enrolled in the after-school program. The Kindergarten Coordinator will manage the daily operation and supervision of the staff assigned to the Kindergarten class and the overall schedule, routines and attendance of the after-school kindergarten program.
This year-round, part-time position starts in late August, Monday through Friday. After-school hours are 2:00 to 6:00 pm. Some of the responsibilities include:
- Plan and conduct daily enrichment activities for children, i.e. physical activities, arts & crafts projects, STEAM, group work, and various other activities determined by the site supervisor and director
- Design and teach weekly “clubs” focusing on an interest shared with the students.
- Provide documented lesson plans for all activities, including “clubs” curriculum
- Have the ability to support and manage large groups of children transitioning into and out of before and after-school programs
- Provide supervision and support in before and after-school settings for students to participate in group class activities and encourage pro-social behaviors
- In conjunction with other team members, maintain a positive, inclusive environment for both children and adults at all times
- Maintain constant communication with the director, site supervisor and other staff
- Record attendance and contact parents with authorization from the director regarding absent students and schedules.
- Provide professional development for all program staff assigned to the Kindergarten program
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and attend training opportunities
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree, Associates Degree (Related field Child development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, the Arts)
- Have a minimum of 1-2 years of demonstrated experience working with children between the ages of 4 years and 10 years in a camp, after school and/or classroom setting
- Preferred experience in working with children from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, as well as children with special needs
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
- All prospective staff will be required to undergo background checks and fingerprints
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, walk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to run, during play or responding to an emergency. Employees are frequently required to engage with children on the floor and at their eye level. Employees are frequently required to use their hands and arms to handle and manipulate objects as well as reach. Vision abilities are required for supervision of children. SALARY: starting at $32.00/hour
