Job Overview:
Our Summer Camp Counselorwill lead children through a variety of activities, including all recreational & educational activities including basketball, soccer, science, project-based work, swimming, dancing, arts & crafts, sports programming, games and more. This individual is responsible for providing support and supervision to the assistant counselors in their corresponding division.
Responsibilities:
· Engage children in interactive activities including organized arts and crafts, singing, sports activities, STEM, games, and outdoor activities
· Ensure supplies are available and stocked, and accurate amount of snacks/lunch and drinks pre-arranged by the Unit Head
· Assists with general camp duties throughout the day, including maintaining the proper camp staffing ratios, ensuring the safety of the campers, and ensuring assistant counselors implement the daily activities
· Leads a group of campers of varying ages with a fun, positive and outgoing attitude while acting as a role model
· Manages and Mentors assistant camp counselors to ensure that they are adhering to BKLA Summer camp policies and procedures
· Updates the Unit-Head on any issues or challenges with campers
· Understands and implements all protocols set forth by BKLA Summer Camp as it relates to health and safety measures
· Attends all staff meetings as required by Unit Head and/or Camp Director
Requirements/Qualifications:
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build and foster relationships
· Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and handling sensitive and confidential information
· Strong customer service, prioritization, time management, analytical skills, and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to work independently
· Make sound decisions under pressure while meeting tight deadlines and open/flexible to last minute changes
· Demonstrate enthusiasm with a sense of humor, patience, and self-control
· High school diplomas or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift up-to 35 lbs.and transport equipment throughout the facility
· Visually observe the campers and listen to distress signals in a noisy environment
· Able to stand for an extended period and/or lead activities
· Capable of working in extreme heat and humidity during the summer months
