What you will be doing...

Coordinate all services needed by the patient and family focusing primarily on the safe administration of oncology/hematology treatments, education of the patient and family, and optimal quality of life for all patients and families.

Use current pharmacy resources and information relating to storage, admixture, stability, infusion times, and appropriate therapy to prepare and administer chemotherapy/immunotherapy agents as ordered by the physician. Maintains safe handling policy and procedures related to cytotoxic exposure. Utilizes correct rate and dosage calculations for safe treatment administration.

Obtain and analyze laboratory specimens according to procedure manual and physician orders.

Perform patient assessments utilizing the nursing process components — assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating relevancy to established standards and plan of care, and emphasis on achievement of patient outcome.

Document relevant patient care information, demonstrating the implementation of the nursing process, relevancy to established standards and plan of care, and emphasis on achievement of patient outcome.

Complete patient assessment for venous access, uses central venous access devices within current standards, and able to troubleshoot potential and actual venous access problems.

Educate patients and families regarding the disease process, methods of treatment, potential side effects, expected follow-up and potential outcomes.

Provide counseling to oncology patients/significant other in order to help meet psychosocial and emotional needs. Functions as patient/significant other advocate.

Coordinate patient care with physicians, hospitals, and home health nurses to facilitate or implement the appropriate plan of care and achieve acceptable patient outcomes.

Work as assigned phone nurse answering telephone calls from patients/family members regarding nursing/medical questions, prescription refills, etc. documenting in the Electronic Medical Record System.

Practice ethically and in a manner that is congruent with cultural diversity and inclusion principles.

What makes you qualified?
-
Nursing diploma, Associate's Degree required or higher preferred

Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse is required, issued by the PA State Board of Nursing.

CPR certification
-
Two (2) years of staff nursing as n RN or 1 (year) oncology experience as n RN or equivalent.
