Job Summary: Specialized Medical Assistant position within the nursing department responsible for the daily management of clinical support functions related to patient medication management.
Essential duties and Responsibilities:

Check the Medline designated fax machine throughout the day for patient’s medication needs, communicate with the appropriate provider, and facilitate approved refills following medication refill process.

Use accurate and appropriate medical terminology, document all interactions with patients.

Data enter all medication requests once the provider has approved or denied.

Return patient phone calls, manage Medline voicemail and address patient medication requests via phone.

Suggest changes to established procedures that will improve efficiency, productivity and quality of service.

Assist Team Lead in facilitating medication prescription completion including but not limited to, faxing, assisting in completing pre-authorizations, and obtaining necessary provider signatures as needed for medication requests.

Establish and maintain professional working relationships with pharmacies in the area.

Demonstrate a courteous and professional phone demeanor always, demonstrate skills in professional and customer service based communication.

Other duties related to department as assigned, showing flexibility and adaptability within scope of practice.

Abide by all Hamilton’s policies including but not limited to clinical policy, employee policy and compliance policy.

Maintain confidentiality and security rules when providing information to internal and external sources.

Attend meetings, develop weekly/monthly/yearly reports and deliver presentations /reports to internal and external stakeholders, as required.

Maintain open communication lines with patients and staff.

Work within the parameters as defined by Hamilton’s Quality Department and follow established protocols to meet the requirements of regulatory agencies.

Participates in the Hamilton’s efforts related to revenue cycle, which include but are not limited to: achieving goals for productivity; meeting or exceeding revenue targets; and expense management as budgeted.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of health care services, including understanding of MA role and have excellent medical terminology knowledge. Must be industrious, have effective communication skills and can develop rapport with professional staff. Well organized, neat, accurate and detail orientated. Demonstrate knowledge of and maintain the standards and requirements of HIPAA. Ensure the protection and security of personal, confidential and identifiable information in a professional and responsible manner and carry out all measure to prevent from unauthorized disclosures. Must be able to communicate professionally, politely and courteously with people from various socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. Must be industrious and have good verbal, written and presentation communication skills. A broad knowledge of organizational operations and policies; with a high level of required professional discretion, integrity and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, high level of multi-tasking, meet deadlines, to concentrate and pay attention to details, to include organizing, prioritizing, and working independently as required on schedule while producing work in a timely manner. Able to demonstrate interpersonal; relationship-building skills and contribute as a team player within the organization. Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of accredited medical assistant program and be CPR Certified or able to obtain certification within 6 months of job placement. A minimum of six (6) months experience working in a doctor’s office, clinic or hospital setting required.
