Asphalt Mill Operator

Crew member essential to the removal/milling of asphalt or concrete on highways, private roadways, parking lots and driveways. This is a highly skilled position involving the grade control and operation of a cold asphalt milling machine.
Job Description - Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Safely and skillfully operates a cold milling machine following all standard equipment procedures.
· Responsible for proper usage of grade control devices.
· Maintains equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventive maintenance and repair tasks such as adjusting, fluid checks, replacing minor parts and lubricating equipment.
· Responsible for daily checks of the milling drum, conveyors and water supply systems.
· Responsible for daily inspection and replacement of milling teeth on the milling drum to assure proper cutting patterns on pavement surfaces.
· Must maintain an acute sense of awareness to the surrounding footprint of the machine (watch for obstructions while operating the equipment, such as ground utilities, curb and gutters).
· Maintain constant visual contact with co-workers on the ground and trucks in front of the machine.
· Must perform general laborer duties as assigned.
Skill Requirements:
· Job requires the following motions: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching and squatting.
· Requires regular lifting of up to 50 pounds.
· Must have at least three years’ experience operating a milling machine.
· This job requires the individual to have good hand to eye coordination and comply with all industry regulations.
Additional Requirements:
· Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew can operate at normal proficiency level.
· Attitude, Cooperation; must always maintain a courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers, public.
· Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes. Overtime work required.
· Must have reliable transportation.
Work Environment:
· Physical ability to operate equipment under temperature extremes and for extended hours of time. Normal shift is 8-10 hours.
· May be exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather.
· May be exposed to vehicular traffic and must follow all MOT procedures.
Safety:
· Ability to adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition. Personal Protective Gear Provided, with exception to work boots.
· Hired employees will receive safety training and hence forth must always maintain the safety standards outlined within the company safety program.
