General Maintenance Technician
The General Maintenance Technician is a full-time position. General Maintenance Technicians work under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor; these duties consist of normally scheduled routine and preventive maintenance work, project work and facility set-ups.
The General Maintenance Technician should have at least one (1) year in a Maintenance position, working in an institutional environment. A positive attitude and strong work ethic are also very important. Performance of job duties may require driving a Berkeley vehicle. If so, a current Florida driver’s license is required as well as acceptance by Berkeley Preparatory School’s automobile insurance company.
Normal duties can include but are not limited to the following list of essential duties and responsibilities.
- Basic Carpentry and drywall work
- Painting
- Basic Electrical work (bulbs, ballasts, etc.)
- Basic Plumbing installation and repairs.
- Furniture repair, basic woodworking.
- Occasional set-up/move work for special campus events.
- Sweep, mop and vacuum work areas as needed.
- Move heavy furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment, as directed.
- Report items that need repair (doors, door locks, furniture, lights, faucets, etc.)
- Lock all offices, classrooms, etc., after work is performed
- Clean and perform minor maintenance on Facilities Management vehicles.
- Rotate weekend (Saturday) coverages/on-call.
- Rotate morning campus unlock procedures.
- When on-call, is available during off hours to assist with emergencies, or routine issues that require assistance.
- Is available during scheduled hours via 2-way radio. Is expected to read and answer pertinent emails in a timely fashion, if required by position.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Basic Job Requirements:
- Working knowledge of institutional maintenance.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to properly complete work orders in a reasonable and timely fashion.
- Must be able to safely operate or learn to safely operate basic tools and equipment used in the maintenance trade.
- Submit completed work orders daily to the Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Operations Manager as directed.
- Complete required paperwork/reports as requested.
- Must be safety conscious and aware of basic safety precautions.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull a variety of tools and equipment.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
- Must be able to work within the industry without adverse reaction to common materials encountered during the performance of duties.
- Ability to work within and uphold the philosophy of the institution, observe institutional regulations and cooperate fully in the operation of the institution.
Compensation and Benefits:
The appointment is available immediately and is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position and eligible for full benefits. The compensation package will be very competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, certification attainment, and the national independent school and college markets.
