Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, this role is focused on developing various communications to inform stakeholders (internal and external) of corporate messages and activities. This role is also instrumental in driving Calpine’s philanthropic efforts through corporate volunteerism and charity engagement. Applicants for this position should possess strong communication skills (both written and verbal), creative and strategic thinking, project management, acute attention to detail and consistently high-quality production. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of products (especially PowerPoint, Word and Excel) and extensive knowledge of AP Style are required. Working or advanced knowledge of graphic design and experience using the Adobe Design suite (InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) of applications is preferred. Agency and/or energy industry experience is a plus.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for the development and execution of a wide range of editorial projects for external and internal audiences.
- Creates, implements and oversees communications programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products.
- Develops creative, clearly written material in support of the organization's communications strategies.
- Plans, develops and contributes to communications such as internal employee newsletters and messages, company intranet, digital signage, press releases, scripts, external and internal web content and presentations.
- Responsible for website and intranet updates.
- Designs, plans, manages and writes communications that enhance Calpine's relations with the community, the public, governmental and regulatory authorities and employees.
- Works closely with External Affairs to coordinate distribution of the organization's messages through news or trade media contacts, special events, public speaking or other means to reach defined audiences to meet specific program objectives.
- May act as the organization's representative in community projects and other public or social gatherings.
- Manages relationships and negotiates with outsourced vendors on communication-related projects.
- May counsel top management and/or other departments on effective communication strategy and policy.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business, Communications, Journalism or related field.
- Seasoned professional; 7+ years’ experience.
- Demonstrated business writing skills (including use of AP Style).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Working knowledge of graphic design basics and use of Adobe Design Suite of applications (InDesign, Illustrator, etc.).
