Job Purpose
The general maintenance laborer of Hampton Farms is involved in the maintenance of the facility and equipment of the Industrial Plant. The general maintenance laborer is a critical position in Hampton Farms food quality and safety systems. Being a producer of peanuts and peanut products, the maintenance manager is aware of risks involved with regard to keeping the all areas of the facility including equipment in good working order by using preventive maintenance techniques, daily checklists, and proper repair procedures. The general maintenance laborer is trained in various SOP’s pertaining to the job and equipment required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspecting, lubricating, and cleaning machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, low voltage systems, PLCs, and Pneumatic issues with production equipment and machinery identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
- Conduct repairs and replacements of faulty components, such as motors, bearings, belts, sensors, and Pneumatic cylinders, to minimize downtime and prevent production delays.
- Utilize hand and power tools, as well as diagnostic equipment, to diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions accurately.
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules to perform scheduled inspections, adjustments, and replacements of parts to prevent breakdowns and prolong equipment lifespan.
- Collaborate with production staff and supervisors to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize disruptions to production schedules.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, equipment manuals, and spare parts inventory, using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures at all times to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment and machinery, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards.
- Participate in training programs to stay updated on new technologies and industry best practices in maintenance and repair.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.

- Work with team members maintaining daily sanitation by confirming that the work area has been cleaned after each shift.
Quality Assurance:
- Knows and adheres to GMP policy and all Quality policies and procedures.
- Assists in identifying and or reporting non-conforming products to aid in eliminating waste.
- Communicates daily with Corporate Quality Team and plant manager to ensure customer specifications are met.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of Maintenance Technician experience in a manufacturing or packaging environment is preferred but not required.
- Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy loads, up to 50 pounds, and stand for extended periods on hard surfaces.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain focus in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic math skills for counting and recording inventory.
- Understanding of safety and food safety protocols and willingness to follow all safety guidelines.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Work in extreme weather conditions.
- Climb ladders and steps, including the ability to ascend elevated heights.
- Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Electrical certifications are a PLUS
Skills/Competencies:
- Proficient in standard Microsoft Office Suite applications
Job Physical Demands:
- Continuous standing in one location for long periods (2-3 hours before break)
- Climbing :ladders, stairs, etc. –using feet and legs or hands and arms 1/3 of the time
- Lifting: Intermediate lifting up to 55 lbs for up to half your shift (up to 4 hours)

Work Environment:
- Combination of manufacturing environment along with duties that will require employee to work in a production/plant environment where physical hazards such as industrial equipment and forklifts may be present.
