Biddeford is conveniently situated 15 miles south of Portland and 90 miles north of Boston. The City of Biddeford’s Recreation Department has a great opportunity for a public facing position working with the busy summer traffic and patrons at Pool Beach. The person in this position should be friendly, able to work under pressure while maintaining composure, have a professional approach with the public, the ability to give and receive direction, and be reliable and able to work well with others.
Responsibilities
- Conducts opening and closing procedures of the parking area
- Maintains the safety of the public
- Cooperates with all staff
- Acts as a role model with a positive attitude for all staff and beach patrons
- Ensures that the parking lot is safe for parking; closes lot when full and informs the public of changes in parking availabilities
- Knows the policies, rules, and regulations related to the beach and water and can convey those to the public
- Oversees care and appropriate use of equipment pertinent to the job functions
- Provides support as needed to lifeguards in emergencies
- Ensures a proper rotation of guards daily
- Responsible for the general appearance and cleanliness of both the parking area and bathrooms during operation hours
- Remains alert in order to detect potential hazardous conditions and patrons in distress
- Acts in emergencies to rescue and render appropriate first aid procedures to patrons as necessary
- Is aware of weather and ocean conditions to inform the public
- Responsible for courteously answering questions from beach patrons
- Enforces the rules consistently and fairly
- Perform other related duties as required, directed, or as a situation dictates
Required Qualifications
- Ability to enforce parking rules and regulations
- Ability to exercise good judgment in enforcing rules firmly and tactfully
- Ability to react quickly and calmly
- Ability to remain alert for long periods
- Ability to work well with colleagues and the public
