Assistant Director, Business Development

JK Executive Strategies is proud to partner with a global center for research and education in search of an Assistant Director, Business Development to join its team!
The Assistant Director, Business Development will play a crucial role in fostering relationships, spearheading marketing efforts, and driving business development initiatives for an applied research center within a prominent institution. This individual will report to the Center's Director and work closely with current sponsors and prospective partners to establish enduring collaborations that support research activities.
Responsibilities
Relationship Management:
- Establish and maintain relationships with government agencies, non-government organizations, and key stakeholders (e.g., U.S. EPA, NYSERDA, NYS, Monroe County).
- Arrange and attend in-person and remote meetings with decision-makers. Network with corporate and other stakeholders.
- Conduct detailed follow-up with existing sponsors and partners. Develop strong research program sponsorships.
Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with the center Director to identify target areas and potential emerging focus areas for applied research.
- Stay informed about trending or emerging topics that align with the center's mission.
- Identify, cultivate, and manage prospect relationships. Develop relationship and business development plans to engage appropriate organizations.
Marketing and Branding:
- Develop marketing and branding strategies with the marketing team. Advise on the creation of marketing materials and plans for various programs.
- Review and edit promotional materials for content and messaging. Assess marketing effectiveness using data analytics.
- Write, review, and edit outbound communications, including promotional materials, website content, and reports. Coordinate communications projects and website development.
- Supervise a marketing team of 5-6 members. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluating staff performance.
Event Coordination:
- Lead the planning and coordination of special events (e.g., CEO breakfast series, conferences), including the recruitment of keynote and other speakers.
- Represent the center at technical conferences, tradeshows, events, and trade organization/economic development meetings. Foster relationships to drive business engagement with center programs and research.
Research and Proposal Development:
- Conduct secondary research on emerging sustainability and economic issues. Develop new program ideas and write white papers.
- Write content and engage partners on grant proposals. Contribute to strategic planning as a member of the senior staff.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
- Eight or more years of experience in business/partnership development or a related field.
- Experience cultivating relationships with government and state or federal research/program sponsors.
- Experience supervising staff or leading a team.
- Research business development experience preferred.
- Experience networking with leadership at Fortune 100 companies is a plus.
- Event planning experience preferred.
- Experience in university outreach programs or similar environments preferred.
- Strategic, data-driven marketing experience preferred.
Other:
- Must be comfortable commuting to the office 5 days a week.
- Ability to travel within and outside of NYS as required.
