Description:
The career level senior process engineer is responsible for Program Execution for Machine Controls and Robotics. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- New program implementation/execution (SOR prep, forecasting, controls/robotics design, equipment build/run-off and buyoff)
- Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high-quality parts.
- Manage deliveries to program timing milestones.
- Provide project report outs to senior management.
- Existing program/site support (troubleshooting, etc.)
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all customers/plants.
- Provide technical direction to less experienced controls engineers.
- Design and troubleshooting of electrical controls systems.
- Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.
- Travel as required.
Basic Skills
- Required (5-7 years of experience as a controls/robotics engineer)
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process.
- Experience in PLC and HMI programming, Ethernet and/or Devicenet networks
- Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives
- Provide technical expertise on the design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch, and continuous improvement of the Plant Floor systems (PFS)
- Experience in Fanuc robot’s setup and programming
- Problem solving, analytical, interpersonal and communications skills required.
- Ability to design and troubleshoot electrical controls systems.
- Demonstrated Excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple challenging projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results.
- Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others.
- Proven ability in project management skills
- Multiple different manufacturing controls and/or robotics assignments with successful individual achievements
- Ability to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems.
- Self –motivated and ability to multitask.
Preferred Skills
- Demonstrated understanding of plant floor work
- General knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics is a plus.
- Understanding of GMS and 4 walls within the site or program
- Prior work experience as controls engineers in the automotive field
- Knowledge of GM’s global controls architecture
Education
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering or equivalent experience/training.
