Yellowbrick is looking for a passionate individual to fill the part-time role of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. Yellowbrick is a trauma-informed treatment center focused on providing high-quality, intensive psychiatric care to the emerging adult population—typically, ages 18 to early 30s, in a real-time, interdisciplinary setting.
Overarching expectations of this role include:
- Function as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team in implementing treatment plans in collaboration with a licensed OT for patients whose life skills, executive functions, and self-organization patterns have been affected by psychiatric problems.
- Under the direct supervision of a licensed OT, assist with the implementation of the therapy plan, the provision of direct professional clinical services in the area of occupational therapy, and the full spectrum of life skill services and executive functioning.
- Implement in collaboration with Yellowbrick’s licensed OT, Director of The Residence, and Core Competence Staff (CCS) of services that enhance patient participation in exercise, healthy biorhythms, and recreational activity.
- Provide treatment, guidance, and instruction to patients in individual, group, and family settings, to promote the development of various skills needed to function in the home, school, community or working environment.
- Observe patient performance and motivation in activities of daily living, executive functioning, cognitive and psycho-social abilities, and sensory integrative functions.
- Maintain current documentation within the EMR and compile written progress reports which include the type of therapy/treatment administered to clients and an evaluation of the results.
- Assist patients in establishing skills, patterns, and routines (exercise, socialization, relaxation, studying, etc.) that facilitate productive activity.
- Liaison with Core Competence Staff at Yellowbrick’s residential facility for activities, weekend planning, encouraging routine and structure.
Qualifications:
- Hold an associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Certification and registration as a COTA by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
- Possess current Illinois licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant
- Show a solid understanding of occupational therapy principles and practices, with a proven ability to implement therapy plans efficiently
- Exhibit outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, crucial for effective collaboration with both our therapy team and clients' families
- Display a genuine commitment to ongoing professional development, ensuring you remain informed about the cutting edge of occupational therapy practices
- Required to sit, stand, bend, and walk regularly; lift and/or move up to 45lbs pounds
- Previous clinical experience in psychiatric settings and/or basic understanding of interdisciplinary psychiatric continuum of care preferred
- Access to a personal form of transportation is strongly preferred
