ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides nutrition education counseling and support on nutrition, breastfeeding, and health related issues to participants in a timely manner under the direction of the WIC director.
Develops nutrition care plan and required documentation in WIC WISE.
Allows participant to select nutrition goal and provides referrals as needed.
Provides staff in-service trainings as needed.
Uses appropriate nutrition education materials.
Enters correct food prescription in WIC wise and issues benefits.
Answers and responds to nutrition and breastfeeding questions.
Maintains an acceptable productivity rate.
Communicates with health providers at needed.
Provides breastfeeding and nutrition education classes to WIC participants.
Provides referral to IBCLC when work is out of scope of practice.
Demonstrates consistent compliance with WIC policies and procedures.
Under the direction of the WIC Director completes the nutrition education component in the annual nutrition services plan.
Under the direction of the WIC Director develops class lesson plans and annual class schedule.
Participates in staff meetings and completes required WIC trainings as needed.
Demonstrates accuracy and competency in work.
May be required to perform other related duties, responsibilities , and special projects as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science in Food or Nutrition Science.
1 year experience in Nutrition Counseling in community nutrition.
1 year experience in Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program preferred
Registered Dietitian preferred.
Bilingual preferred.
Ability to relate in a supportive and non-judgmental manner to all participants.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships.
Must be able to work regularly and on time.
Must have excellent computer skills

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Work is normally performed in a typical clinic office work environment (and, in some cases, telecommuting sites). Physical: Occasionally required to carry/lift/push/pull/move up to 20lbs. Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, reaching over the shoulder, reaching over the head, reaching outward, sitting, walking on various surfaces, standing, and bending. Occasional travel to other Axis health centers and other occasional travel will be required.
Equipment: Frequently required to use repetitive motion of hands and feet to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, copier, and other office equipment for extended periods.
Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and signage. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with staff etc. Must be able to speak clearly, understand normal communication, and be understood.
Cognitive: Must be able to analyze the information being received, count accurately, concentrate and focus on the given task, summarize the information being received, accurately interpret written data, synthesize information from multiple sources, write summaries as needed, interpret written or verbal instructions, and recognize social or professional behavioral cues.
Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office (medical clinic/office) environments. Rare exposure to dust and loud noises.
