Christ Church Contemporary Worship Leader
Christ Church United Methodist is looking for a Worship Leader for it’s contemporary service. It is located in Kettering, a southern suburb of Dayton Ohio.

About Christ Church: Christ Church is a 73-year-old congregation located in Kettering, a southern suburb of Dayton Ohio. Christ Church has planted 4 campuses over the last 13 years. It is located across the street from Kettering High School and 2 blocks away from Kettering Middle School. The mission is to change lives through the transforming power of Christ and the goal is for each person to learn how to love like Jesus every day, where they live, work and play. We have three worship services, two traditional and one contemporary. The contemporary service makes up 50% of the worshipping congregation.
Position Description:
The Contemporary Worship Leader must be a Christ-centered team player with the ability to provide musical expertise and strong worship leadership from the platform in order to model excellent and authentic worship for our church body. The Worship Leader will ensure that the services are engaging and meaningful, inspiring people to deepen their spiritual journey. This position also serves as Production Director of the contemporary and traditional worship experience and executes the vision of Christ Church. The Contemporary Worship Leader must be adept at fostering a team environment in working with volunteers, staff and pastors. Contributing to the Worship design team for song selection, scheduling of musicians, tech team and coaching volunteer teams are a necessity.
Major responsibilities and duties:
- Schedule contemporary worship team, assign roles, and enter into Planning Center Online (PCO).
- Select music based on vision from Pastoral staff with prayer, conceptual forethought, theological accuracy, and musical appropriateness.
- Upload all necessary materials for Worship Team into PCO. Musicians – music and charts; media – song lyrics; sound crew – input list.
- Arrange music and transcribe as necessary including input of new songs in PCO.
- Lead worship team in weekly rehearsal in preparation for Sunday Worship. Work with musicians as needed in music and vocal technique.
- Prepare team spiritually and musically for Sunday worship.
- Lead and engage with congregation in worship with the goal of leading people into the presence of God.
- Recruit worship team members and carry out auditions with a team.
- Lead worship team to be accountable to the Christ Church Worship Team Guiding Principles.
- Available for special worship services as needed.
- Manages Sunday production for traditional and contemporary worship (Audio/Visual/stream)
- Manage, recruit, and schedule audio and visual technicians for all Sunday worship services, Joyful Sounds concerts, and special worship services.
- Oversee maintenance of Audio-Visual systems in Activity Center and Sanctuary.
- Prepare ProPresenter scripts for all Sunday worship and special worship services in coordination with pastoral and communications staff.
- Other duties as assigned by pastoral staff.
Qualifications needed for the position:
- Profess a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
- Willing to be a member and involved at Christ Church.
- Manage time efficiently and effectively, with a strong emphasis on effective organizational and planning skills.
- Demonstrate an ability to build teams and provide leadership that encourages spiritual growth, church connection and expression of musical talent.
- Must possess a gentle and humble spirit and be willing to grow and be taught.
- Accomplished musician with ability to lead worship vocally and with guitar and/or keyboard.
- Demonstrate competent knowledge of music with ability to execute and teach.
- Demonstrated experience in leading contemporary worship.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, preparing, and performing.
- Desire and willingness to learn new worship methods for online communities.
- Team player with a respect for leadership and ability to work in collaboration with pastoral lead team and across the collective.
- Must be a self-motivated, resourceful and show ability to complete tasks.
- Experience in audio, video, lighting, ProPresenter, PCO, and production a significant plus.
- Ability to work independently and interdependently.
- Display a servant heart.
Education & Experience:
- At least two years plus of hands-on experience in worship planning and leading in a contemporary format.
- Experience in recruiting, training and leading volunteers.
