PURPOSE
The Transportation Support Specialist conducts transportation processes at their workplace. The Transportation Specialist assists at Operations and the Transit Center providing professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful support service interactions. This position is responsible to accurately and reliably perform Ecolane transit scheduling and financial transactions, prepare, and maintain accurate records, and may provide day-to-day cleaning maintenance of transit Center grounds, facilities and orders supplies. Assignments are typically determined by the natural flow of work and performed independently without close supervision and instruction. This position is safety sensitive and requires a pre-employment drug test and placement in the random pool testing for drugs and/or alcohol.
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Proficient in use of Ecolane transit scheduling software. (You will be trained in the use of Ecolane software.)
- Possess knowledge of ADA Para-Transit rules and internal processes in all aspects of the job.
- Receive calls for Para-Transit scheduling, entering ride request in computer for future dispatch.
- Contact Para-Transit clients regarding next day’s trips.
- Maintain accurate and efficient client information records in computer database.
- Provide information and education to clients regarding program requirement, eligibility, and reservation procedures.
- Coordinate the movement of buses and riders, ensuring safety, assisting drivers, finding ways to improve transportation processes.
- Provide professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful customer service to the public and internal staff. This includes but is not limited to:
- Conduct sales of transit tickets, passes, and identification cards and associated documentation with such sales.
- Make identification cards for public employees and families, including taking photographs and preparing laminated cards.
- Answer inquiries from customers and staff via telephone (transfer calls if needed), in writing or in person concerning route, schedule & trip planning information, Lost and Found and all other SETD services.
- Contact bus drivers as needed to coordinate rider connection needs. Advise Driver Supervisor of schedule and service problems indicated by customer inquiries and comments. Assists with emergencies as requested.
- Processes reservations for Transit Center conference room and provides access to authorized customers.
- Receive and store Lost and Found items, contact owners of identified items and issue claims items to customer upon identification. Sort unidentified lost and found items for appropriate distribution.
- Receive and process customer/public complaints, compliments and suggestions and forward complaints and compliments to Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer.
- Accurately and reliably process monetary transactions and conduct associated financial administration duties, including but not limited to:
- Assist with processing Fixed Route and Para-Transit vault receipts and prepare deposit.
- Receive and process cash and credit card transactions for ticket, pass and identification card sales.
- Count, balance and verify SETD cash drawers and drop daily.
- Complete cash drop to bank for deposit as needed.
- Maintain compliance with security procedures for cash and materials having monetary value.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records, including but not limited to:
- Daily driver logs data entry.
- Audit Para-Transit driver log sheets.
- Maintain log of Maintenance Facilities requests.
- Daily Transit Center perimeter check and cleaning logs.
- Maintain Transit Center grounds and supplies, including:
- Open and close Transit Center and lobby at designated times.
- Conduct check of the Transit Center at approximately two (2) hour intervals, including lobby, grounds, shelters, clean to ensure cleanliness of facilities, empty trash, restock supplies and collect Lost and Found items.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms daily and ensure restock of necessary supplies.
- Stock and maintain all bus schedules, brochures, forms and other printed materials as needed.
- Monitor supply levels to include ordering supplies on a regular basis for all locations.
- Maintains inventory of Transit office supplies in an accurate, organized and accessible manner using Excel spreadsheet.
- Maintains reliable and predictable attendance on a full-time basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education-High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years’ experience in clerical work
- 2 years’ experience in customer service
- Proficient in computer word processing and data entry
- Ability to read maps and understand and effectively communicate routing directions

- Ability to operate a variety of office technology including but not limited to computers, keyboards, telephone lines, transit radios, copier, fax machine, Square payment method or software equivalent, Microsoft Office suite, etc.
- Ability to perform duties in time sensitive/pressure situations.
- Ability to perform duties with little supervision.
DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and experience of transit scheduling software.
- Proficient bilingual Spanish speaking skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Constantly works in an office environment; occasionally has exposure to transit vehicles/buses and extreme heat/cold (inclement weather) while outdoors on Transit Center Grounds.
- Frequently works under time constraints.
- Occasionally works with challenging customers.
- Physical requirements of the job:
- Constantly lifts up to 10 pounds, frequently lifts up 20 pounds, and occasionally lifts up to 30 pounds.
