Job Summary:
The Director of Operations and Maintenance Services is a pivotal leadership position within the Corp Yard department, reporting directly to the AGM – Public Works - CIP. This role is central to ensuring that operations and maintenance activities are conducted efficiently, safely, and in a cost-effective manner. The Director will spearhead the development and execution of strategic initiatives, lead and mentor a diverse team, and foster continuous improvement to uphold the organization's mission and contribute to its success.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Craft and implement the strategic vision, goals, and objectives for the operations and maintenance department, ensuring alignment with the broader organizational mission. Champion operational excellence and high-performance standards.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and provide direction to a multidisciplinary team, promoting a culture of teamwork, professional growth, and engagement.
- Operational Efficiency: Enhance operational and procurement processes, workflows, and systems for increased efficiency and reduced operational costs, while maintaining quality service.
- Asset Management: Direct the maintenance, management, and improvement of facilities, equipment, and other assets through effective preventive maintenance programs.
- Budgeting and Financial Management: Oversee budget development and financial management, optimizing resource allocation and identifying cost-saving measures.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols, updating practices as needed to maintain compliance.
- Vendor and Contractor Management: Manage relationships with vendors and contractors, ensuring cost-effective and quality services.
- Performance Metrics and Reporting: Establish KPIs to assess departmental performance, producing reports for senior management with insights and improvement strategies.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response and business continuity plans to minimize operational disruptions.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Lead sustainability efforts, focusing on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and eco-friendly practices.
Knowledge, Skill & Abilities:
- Expertise in operations and maintenance management principles and best practices.
- Proficient at creating Scope of Work (SOW’s)
- Proficient in budgeting, financial management, and cost control.
- Strong adherence to procurement policies and practices
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, capable of fostering high-performing teams.
- Proficient in regulatory compliance and safety standards within the industry.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Skilled in negotiation and vendor management.
- Adept in using technology, work order systems, Microsoft Business suite, and related technological tools.
- Commitment to sustainability and efficiency in operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent years of experience and certifications.
- At least 8 years of experience in operations and maintenance management, with a preference for leadership roles.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Certified Facility Manager, Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional) are beneficial.
Work Environment:
This role operates within a dynamic and fast-paced environment, requiring flexibility and adaptability in and out of the office environment. The Director will work closely with various departments and external partners, necessitating a collaborative approach to leadership and management.
- Ability to work beyond standard hours as necessary, including handling emergency situations.
- Compliance with all organization policies, including workplace health and safety standards.
- Periodic travel to various Villages facilities or sites will be required.
