PRIMARY PURPOSE:
- Direct and manage the maintenance of facilities and grounds. Maintain physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use may be made at all times. Provide students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive, and functional.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
- Industry Trade License(s)
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Exhibit competency relating to engineering, storage, and supply management, reading blueprints; and construction techniques.
- Demonstrate excellent communication (verbal and written), public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of technology and its use to enhance the services provided by the Maintenance Department.
- Knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures of Mesquite ISD
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of State guidelines/laws that regulate/limit the operation of the Maintenance Department.
- Ability to manage budget and personnel
- Knowledge of political theory and ability to apply communication skills to build strong internal and external support for the Mesquite ISD.
- Knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
- Exhibit highly effective organizational and consensus building skills.
EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) years supervisory experience in maintenance operations.
- Ten (10) years’ experience in maintaining a large plant or building.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provide for the proper maintenance and repair of all school furnishings and equipment.
- Responsible for the production of special-order furniture and equipment in the school maintenance shops, when conditions make it desirable and necessary.
- Maintain buildings and grounds in condition for safe, sanitary, efficient operation, and to continuously inspect, appraise, and maintain such conditions throughout the term of their operation.
- Supervise the maintenance of and the inventory of all property in cooperation with the Executive Director of Facilities Management.
- Requisition the purchase of equipment and supplies needed for the efficient operation of department in cooperation with the Executive Director of Facilities Management.
- Recommend to the Executive Director of Facilities Management personnel needed to maintain buildings, grounds, and other school property as well as personnel needed for the office of division.
- Direct the selection and supervision of all maintenance personnel.
- Administer the policies of the school system relative to leaves.
- Maintain a continuous training program for maintenance personnel.
- Report to the Executive Director of Facilities Management on the general condition of school property, and equipment and to recommend changes, improvements, and alterations that should be made.
- Serve as the district’s designated person for Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA).
- Serve as district Hazard Communication Officer.
- Recommend rehiring of personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Auxiliary personnel of the Maintenance Department
- Secretaries of the Maintenance Department
