Company Background:
Zahourek System Inc.’s ANATOMY IN CLAY® Learning System, founded in the late 1970’s by Jon Zahourek, is being used by thousands of classrooms nationwide. As a fine artist Jon Zahourek moved his family from Denver to New York City. One of his first assignments was teaching figure drawing at the Parsons School for Design. Jon knew that his students needed a solid understanding of human anatomy, so he created and sculpted a scale model skeleton on which he could build clay muscles. Jon soon discovered that he was fascinated by anatomy and became an avid student of the human body. He also became passionate about the power of hands-on learning. He knew that building the human body from the inside-out gave him a strong sense of confidence, a deep understanding of anatomy, and a grasp of the underlying structures that unite humans and other species. He wanted to share these insights with others. Jon, determined to bring his clay modeling methods to a broader audience, began to develop the array of human and animal skeletons available today. Complementary curriculums and workbooks were also developed to help educators use the ANATOMY IN CLAY® Learning System to deliver powerful anatomy lessons.
Today, the company is headquartered in Loveland, Colorado and has two manufacturing facilities. ANATOMY IN CLAY® models are used in over 30,000 high schools, colleges, veterinary schools, and bodyworker training programs, and each model remains constructed by hand to ensure the highest possible quality.
