General Description: It is the responsibility of the Membership Service Representative for all aspects of customer service with member and customer satisfaction being the top priorities. The membership service representative represents the YMCA in a professional manner, projecting a positive, friendly and helpful attitude. A team approach is critical. The employees in this position are responsible for completion of tasks assigned by the Membership Coordinator. They must work well with the public and be comfortable with handling cash. Situations of a confidential nature may arise and must be kept as such. The cash out proof sheet, accurate completion of assigned tasks and customer/member satisfaction proves quality of work.Essential Job Duties That Must Be Safely Performed With or Without Reasonable Accommodation:1. Effective communication skills with members, other staff, and administration.2. Create a positive team environment while working at the front desk. 3. Greet all customers and members in a polite and professional manner.4. Ensure that members swipe their card or are manually entered in the system.5. Answer telephone in a professional manner and direct calls to appropriate parties.6. Sell memberships, programs, and retail items while cross promoting other programs.7. Take payments for memberships, child care, and other programs and issue receipts.8. Accurately complete tasks assigned by the Membership Coordinator in a timely fashion.9. Register members and non-members for programs.10. Utilize all reasonable resources to answer members/guests questions.11. Complete cash out and verify accuracy of money received.12. Facilitate building tours for prospective members when needed.13. Possess basic computer skills.14. Perform all other duties as assigned.Non-essential Job Duties:1. Staff meeting attendance is mandatory unless absence is approved through Membership Coordinator.Physical Demands/Hazards:1. The position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling.2. The position requires contact with members, families, facility staff, and the general public. 3. The position requires use of a VDT.4. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.Required Job Skills:1. Effective oral and written communication skills.2. Cooperative demeanor with a teamwork philosophy.3. Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word. 4. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts. 5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from members, customers, and the general public. 6. Ability to maintain patience and a friendly composure when dealing with members.
Education/Experience:1. Must be 18 years of age or older.2. High school diploma or equivalent required.3. Customer service background preferred.4. CPR & First Aid certification is preferred.
