Supervisor: The Director of Education reports to the Executive Center Director.
Supervises: Educators take direction from the Director of Education.
Purpose/Mission: The Director of Education is responsible the day to day operations of the classroom. The leadership of the Director of Education must result in a positive and healthy environment for children and staff.
The Director of Education must ensure manage and support the center staff to provide a high-quality early education programs, while ensuring the financial success of the center.
Location: Though assigned to a specific center, the Director of Education may be asked to work at alternate locations within his/her given region. In addition, travel may be required for trainings, conferences, or professional development.
Educational/Experiential Requirements: The Director of Education must meet or exceed state childcare licensing requirements. It is preferred that the Director of Education possess an Associate Degree or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field. It is preferred that the Director of Education hold a state approved director’s certificate or is willing to obtain certification.
Qualifications: Knowledge of the development of young children, ECE, compliance regulations relating to childcare, and ECE curriculum are essential for implementing a high-quality early education program. An Director of Education has an obligation to maintain communication with parents, and ensure the health and safety of staff and children, and well-being of the children in the center. It is required that the Director of Education demonstrates strong leadership, problem solving, organizational and time-management skills. In addition, they must always maintain professional conduct and appearance.
Job Summary
The Director of Education supports the educational programs on the school campus. They are primarily responsible for implementing new employee orientation and training, on-going training of staff, assisting the
Executive Center Director implement the staff schedule, as well as supporting the educational programs in the classroom environment. The DOE may be asked to facilitate or present trainings after hours and or weekends
The Director of Education promotes a positive image of the company within the community and establishes strong working relationships with state licensing authorities through weekly classroom and facility health and safety observations.
Job Functions/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control in the presence of children, staff and parents when performing assigned responsibilities
- Maintains effective communication with families to keep them apprised of center events, and conduct parent meetings as needed.
- Fosters a positive work environment by modeling appropriate and professional behavior.
- Assists with Interviewing and hiring new staff, ensuring they meet all policies and legal requirements.
- Assists with evaluating, coaching, and counseling staff
- Maintains staff and child records compliant with licensing and company policies
- Ensures the center facilities, equipment and vehicles are safe for children and comply with laws, regulation, and company policies.
- Understands and implements emergency procedures in case of emergency situations.
- Childcare demands physical fitness and mental acuity as staff care for children who cannot care for themselves. The executive director must be able to react quickly with sound judgement and problem- solving skills in complex and critical situations.
- Must be qualified and able to perform the duties of each staff member in the event they are absent.
- Must be capable of lifting, carrying, and holding children weighting up to 60 pounds, up to 100 times daily.
- Ensures the implementation of company-provided education and curriculum programs
Educational/Curriculum Management
- Supervises teachers to ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of each child in the classroom.
Mentors assistant teachers in the required skills and expertise needed to ensure an appropriate classroom environment.
- Regularly visits all classrooms to spot check for cleanliness.
- Ensures teaching staff informs parents of their child’s progress.
- Reviews classroom lesson plans and postings.
- Ensures classroom lesson planning is completed within designated timelines.
- Plans and orders all items for curriculum implementation.
- Ensures that materials are available for weekly extra curriculuar activities are age appropriate and safe for children.
- Reviews classroom arrangement and provides guidance to the center staff to ensure proper classroom arrangement regularly.
- Ensures evidence of learning displays are professional, neat and reflects the curriculum.
- Carries out staffing schedules with the guidance of the Executive Center Director.
- Implements company and state health and safety standards.
- Responsible for the daily playground inspections and provides appropriate documentation of the inspection on the approved forms.
- Trains staff in all center safety policies and procedures. Ensures that all staff members understand their roles in protecting the health and safety of the enrolled children.
- Tracks and maintains staff training records to ensure are trained according to company policies and state licensing regulations.
- Implements all standards necessary to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment, including universal precautions.
