The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry seeks a full time Associate Research Scientist. The position will include designing and conducting research studies, submitting grants and manuscripts, planning, and performing statistical analyses, and managing data. The incumbent will develop and act as principal investigator of new studies in autism spectrum disorder and will be mentored within Dr. Veenstra-VanderWeele's research group to investigate the effect of rare genetic variation on phenotypic presentation in autism.
The selected candidate should have a strong clinical background in child and adolescent psychiatry and neurodevelopmental disorders including autism. The candidate should be proficient with conducting both in-person and online implementations of rating scale and task-based assessments of behavior and should have strong data analytic skills in interpreting the results of these and other assessments. The candidate should have strong computational skills, including a working knowledge of statistical and scientific programming in R and Python.
The candidate should also have excellent oral and written communication skills, a strong publication record, and experience in autism research.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developing, writing, and submitting grant proposals.
- Conducting clinical research assessments of study participants both in-person and online.
- Validating, cleaning, and merging study data.
- Conducting analyses of clinical, biological, and genetic study data using frequentist, Bayesian, and machine-learning approaches.
- Writing and submitting research papers.
- Working with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Supervising and mentoring junior data analysts and research assistants.
- Occasional travel to conferences may be needed.
Qualifications
MINIMUM DEGREE REQUIRED:
- MD with clinical psychiatry training OR PhD in clinical psychology
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 4 years of postdoctoral experience relevant to autism research.
- Completion of clinical training and board certification in child and adolescent psychiatry.
- Completion of a sub-specialty training program in neurodevelopmental disorders, such as the Whitaker Scholars Program in Developmental Neuropsychiatry.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 3 years of prior experience with analyzing psychiatric data.
- At least 1 year of experience with advanced statistical modeling, including generalized estimating equations and multilevel models.
- At least 2 years of prior experience working with large datasets.
- At least 1 year of experience of supervising/mentoring in data analysis
