Position Description
Weris, Inc. is looking for a Junior Communications Specialist ideally with 1-2 years of experience to join our Strategic Communications team in support of our contract with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). This role requires the candidate to work successfully both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid or remote environment. The Communications Specialist should be customer service-oriented and prepared to work on varying deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinating with Weris and GSA team to identify customers’ communications needs.
- Assisting with the development and dissemination of communication and marketing materials.
- Writing content for online articles, newsletters, websites, social media, presentations, and other platforms as necessary.
- Proofreading and editing documents for clarity and consistency in both grammar and formatting.
- Developing branded materials using templates.
- Designing a creative brand identity, graphics, and logo using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Size, format, and incorporate brand and graphics into templates, website design, materials, and a style guide.
- Reviewing documents for 508 compliances.
- Supporting events and meetings.
- Taking detailed meeting minutes that capture key decisions and action items.
- Conducting, recording, and/or editing video interviews with subject matter experts.
- Producing, recording, and editing videos using Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects.
- Assisting Communications Lead with resource scheduling, deliverable tracking, and other coordination duties as necessary. Knowledge of Jira helpful.
- Performing other communication-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design or a related field.
- 1+ years of experience in editing, writing, and/or mass communications.
- 1+ years project coordination with direct customer communications preferred.
- The ability to adhere to style guides including U.S. Government Publishing Office Style Manual (GPO), Chicago Manual of Style, and in house customer style guides.
- Excellent reading comprehension skills and ability to synthesize information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as writing/editing in plain language.
- Advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) and SharePoint, and Google Analytics and Smartsheet.
- High comfort level with Zoom, Teams, GoToMeeting, and/or WebEx.
- Experience with a website Content Management System (CMS) a plus.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to pass a government issued background investigation (equivalent to Public Trust Clearance)
