Vehicle Development Engineer

Location: Brighton MI 48116:
- HYBRID: ‘Onsite’ days are considered as the days travelling to customer manufacturing and test sites. When not travelling, HYBRID is onsite 2 days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support customer and core vehicle development activities for suspension control systems
- Calibrate vehicles for various suspension control functions to achieve vehicle performance targets
- Evaluate / compare system performance in core development vehicles and benchmark vehicles
- Perform vehicle performance verification tests and data reduction
- Create and maintain data reduction routines / scripts
- Author verification test reports
- Coordinate resolution of vehicle and integration issues during the vehicle development cycle
- Interface with algorithm, system, actuator, and electronic control unit engineering
- Develop and maintain suspension system performance specifications
- Support vehicle development test trips (domestic and internationally)
- Support customer buyoff ride events
- Support the development and application of suspension control algorithms
- Support the development of actuator control strategies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (EE, ME or ISE preferred)
- Knowledge of vehicle dynamics
- Understanding of modern controls techniques and theory
- Knowledge of Mathworks Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow
- Familiarity with data acquisition instrumentation concepts
- Familiarity with electrical engineering concepts including embedded microcontroller software/controls
- Knowledge of debugging, testing and verification techniques
- Outstanding technical problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work with team members of other disciplines or departments
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with common computer applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Engineering
- 3-10 years’ experience in the automotive industry, preferably in suspension controls or vehicle testing
- Vehicle suspension system knowledge
- Simulation and modeling experience
- Ability to read and interpret Simulink models and compiled C-code
- Experience in developing performance specifications
- High performance driving experience
- Experience with data acquisition systems and data collection / reduction
- Experience with HIL testing or vehicle testing
Required Travel: Weekly to customer manufacturing and test sites, 20% domestic and international
