Chris Preble from Robert Half Finance & Accounting is working with a Syracuse client of his on a Grant Accountant hiring need. This position is a 99% remote position (you'd only have to be there once or twice a quarter for meetings). The benefits are great here and it's a very low turnover environment.
The Grant Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing the financial aspects of grants received by the organization. This includes ensuring compliance with grant requirements, preparing financial reports, monitoring budgets, and maintaining accurate financial records. The Grant Accountant will work closely with program managers, finance staff, and grantors to ensure the successful financial administration of all grants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grant Management:
- Review and interpret grant agreements and ensure compliance with all financial and reporting requirements.
- Set up and maintain grant accounts in the accounting system, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of grant funds.
- Monitor grant expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and grant guidelines.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports to grantors, ensuring adherence to reporting schedules and requirements.
- Coordinate with program managers to gather necessary information for financial reporting and ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposal budgets, ensuring that they are realistic and comply with grantor guidelines.
- Monitor grant budgets, providing regular updates and analysis to program managers and senior management.
- Prepare budget modifications as required by grantors and internal policies.
- Compliance and Auditing:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to grant funding.
- Prepare for and coordinate grant audits, providing necessary documentation and responses to auditor inquiries.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure proper use and reporting of grant funds.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records for all grants, including grant agreements, budgets, reports, and correspondence.
- Ensure that all financial documentation is properly filed and accessible for audit purposes.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with program managers to provide financial guidance and support for grant-funded projects.
- Communicate effectively with grantors regarding financial matters, including budget revisions, extensions, and reporting.
- Provide training and support to staff on grant compliance and financial reporting requirements.
