We rely on a meticulous financial system to drive business forward. Our accounting department keeps those systems running smoothly by managing payments to vendors and collecting payments from clients. We are looking for a Controller to develop accounting policies and oversee all financial procedures of our company. As a Controller, you’ll monitor the company’s financial status, review quarterly and annual budgets and manage accounting transactions. To be successful in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and experience with risk management. Ultimately, you’ll make sure we comply with accounting regulations, maximize profits and mitigate risks.
Objective of this role:
- Manage members of the accounting team
- Support the company in optimizing our financial transactions and systems by performing reconciliation of payments and customer accounts.
- Communicate discrepancies to management team, identifying slow-paying customers and recommend hold and/or collection candidates.
- Strengthen and grow relationships with clients by communicating with customers regarding past-due accounts.
- Assist in streamlining accounts payable/receivable process by identifying areas of performance improvement.
- Exercise integrity and confidentiality in financial reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Document, monitor and update accounting policies
- Ensure all payments are completed on time (including accounts payable and bank deposits)
- Review quarterly and annual budgets for all departments
- Analyze costs and profits
- Set and track financial KPIs
- Build risk assessment models to evaluate investments
- Report on financial status on a regular basis and create ad-hoc reports when needed
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date filing systems
- Perform internal audits and assist with external audits
- Ensure compliance with accounting and tax regulations
- Monitor and post daily integrated Accounts Payable invoice batches
- Process stop payment requests, cleared check copies and voided checks
- Research outstanding operating account checks and checks returned
- Review and edit daily invoice batches for any discrepancies
- Record all wire payments
- Process manual check requests and cashier’s checks, as needed
- Track, monitor and process monthly vendor allocations
- Enter Accounts Payable reclassifications, as needed
- Create and maintain vendor records
- Create and maintain vendor coding information
- Review, edit and process invoice integration
- Process vendor invoices manually or within the accounting software
- Assist in the timely processing of employee expense reports
- Assist in the monthly research of open invoices and credit memos
- Support other accounting needs as specified by management
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ work experience as a Controller or similar role
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures and legislation, and software.
- Hands-on experience with general ledger accounts payable/receivable functions
- Experience with cash management and risk assessment
- BSc or MSc in Accounting or Finance
- CPA or CMA preferred
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
- Experience with accounts payable/receivable processing in a high-volume environment
- Experience in an automated accounts payable/receivable system
- Experience in an electronic invoicing system required
- Experience in an employee expense report processing system required
