Job Description:
The Classroom Assistant assists the Lead Teacher with creating an environment that supports children’s natural desire to explore, experiment, and discover, helping them to achieve their optimal ability and ensuring a safe and healthful environment. The Classroom Assistant assists with organizing the classroom to support program goals and contributes to the implementation of daily indoor and outdoor activities. They develop trusting relationships with the children and the parent and interact with children in a nurturing way encouraging their participation in activities.
As a Classroom Assistant at FELS, you will:
- Assist with preparing and executing developmentally appropriate programs and daily lesson plans
- Be responsible for implementing positive discipline techniques and guaranteeing that personal care needs are met.
- Adhere to Active Supervision Protocols (e.g. Name To Face Protocol and completion of transition logs).
- Be accountable for the whereabouts of the children at all times and ensure their health, welfare, and safety.
- Assist with organizing and maintaining the classroom.
- Support daily indoor and outdoor activities.
- Assist children with activities of daily living, which may include, but are not limited to, mealtime, nap time, toileting, and personal hygiene as needed.
- Develop trusting relationships with the children and the parents.
- Abide by guidelines for child care, child education, welfare, health, etc. as instructed by FELS.
What are a Classroom Assistant’s skills and qualifications?
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least two (2) years or a minimum of 2,500 hours of childcare experience
- Annual physical examination and biennial TB (Mantoux) test
- Ability to speak, hear, read, write, and understand English
- Ability to easily lift 50 pounds and meet the physical demands of child care over the course of an eight (8) hour workday
- Visual acuity of at least 20/40 (with corrected lenses if needed) to supervise children individually and in groups of up to 25, maintain accurate records, read necessary program materials, verify the identification of escorts, etc.
