Job Title: Cannon Valley Veterinary Clinic Veterinary Technician
Position Purpose
The purpose of the veterinary technician is to assist the veterinarian team, lead veterinary technician and other support staff to maintain the highest quality of care given to all patients at Cannon Valley Veterinary Clinic. This is done by improving the veterinarian’s efficiency: specifically relieving them of technical work and administrative duties associated with each patient visit.
Job Responsibilities

Laboratory
·Collect blood, stool, urine or tissue samples for testing*
·Perform laboratory tests, such as urinalysis, ear cytology, fecal analysis, and blood counts*
·Take and process x-rays*
Surgical
·Sterilize instruments and equipment*
·Prepare animals for surgery*
·Administer anesthesia to animals*
·Assist with dental procedures*
·Assist doctor with euthanasia procedure of seriously injured or ill animals*
Exam and Treatment
·Ask probing questions about the reason for the visit*
·Record case history, weight, temperature and other details*
·Restrain and stabilize animals during examination and treatment*
·Trim nails, remove sutures and perform other routine procedures*
·Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments prescribed by a veterinarian*
·Provide basic education on animal care, nutrition and medical conditions to clients*
·Teach clients how to administer medicines at home*
·Recommend products for optimal wellness, such as vitamins, supplements, dental cleaning, flea control, geriatric care and dietary measures*
Office Management
·Maintain animal records and billing information*
·Prepare and label medications to be sent home with patient*
·Clean and organize examination rooms*
·Organize, label and restock supplies*
·Feed, walk, and bathe animals when applicable*
Customer Service and Reception
·Answer phones*
·Schedule appointments*
·Greet customers*
·Prepare invoices*
·Discharge patients*
·Follow up with clients*
·Follows all Cannon Valley Veterinary Clinic policies, procedures and guidelines outlined in the employee handbook*
Other Skills and Qualities
·Must be a good communicator

·Must be able to lift 50lbs up to 10% of a typical work day*
·Must be able to work on your feet all day*
·Must be willing to work days, evenings, and weekends*
Qualifications - Education and Experience
·Completed associate degree in Veterinary Technology from a program approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association
·Completion of the Veterinary Technician National Exam
·Have at least one full working year as a veterinary technician in training or equivalent experience
