The Recycling Program Manager leads the Department of Public Works’ solid waste and recycling efforts and associated educational and environmental compliance programs. This is a public facing position that requires an individual who is knowledgeable and passionate about sustainability programs and eager to lead a robust communications and outreach effort to a diverse group of audiences. Responsibilities include community and school outreach, generating educational strategies and written materials, pursuing grant opportunities, researching waste management trends and practices, event planning/coordination and assisting in, and in some cases leading, special projects. Upcoming programs and initiatives that this position will focus on includes the 2030 Watertown Waste Reduction Master Plan, working with city venders and haulers to ensure timely collection of materials, and promoting the city’s new composting program.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies or related field and four to six years’ experience in recycling and/or environmental sustainability roles. Proven customer service and interpersonal skills are essential. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. A valid Massachusetts driver’s license with good driving record. Position is subject to CORI background check.
Starting Salary Range: The hiring range is $66,395 to $79,281 depending upon qualifications and education. Effective July 1, 2024 the salary range will start at $81,611.
