About this Position
HOERBIGER Safety Solutions, IEP Technologies (IEP) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Marlborough, MA. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for working all stages of product life cycles, from research and development, to design and manufacturing, and maintenance and support. This position performs detailed mechanical design and analysis, prototyping, testing and trouble-shooting product and manufacturing related issues. The position is also heavily involved with the testing and certification of products by 3rd party test agencies.
We are looking for a highly creative individual with the ability to develop innovative solutions to problems. Must have the ability to clearly communicate technical ideas in a clear manner, both visually and verbally.
This position will work in the office daily for the first several months and then will transition to a split work week with three days in office and two remote.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conduct FEA, FMEA, DFM, and root cause analysis throughout the product development life cycle
- Select and source purchased components from qualified buyers
- Develop test plans for prototypes and first production run products
- Coordinate the manufacturing of prototypes and conduct prototype testing
- Conduct cost analysis of product designs.
- Develop tooling and fixtures to optimize manufacturing
- Update manufacturing specifications and work instructions for product assembly
- Select and source capital equipment needed to manufacture products and design manufacturing lines
- Create design and assembly drawings for use by suppliers and manufacturing personnel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Minimum 10 years design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Proven Project Management skills/experience required.
- Demonstrated experience with product development tools (DFx, FMEA, DOE) required.
- Prior experience working in an ISO 9001:2008 environment required.
- Experience working with ISO 80079:34 (Explosive Atmospheres) preferred.
- Knowledge of explosion protection products and methods preferred.
- Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements of explosion protection equipment such as valves, cylinders, nozzles, and electromechanical assemblies preferred.
