Heavy Equipment Operator

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The equipment operator operates a variety of heavy equipment (Excavator, Loader, Skid Steer, Motor Grader, Dozer, Roller, Scraper) and trucks used in construction to excavate, dig underground utilities, complete site work and grading of land.
Essential Functions

· Operate various pieces of large equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations
· General Knowledge of plans, instructions, and conditions to regulate work activities.
· Locate of utilities and other buried lines before excavating.
· Competent in trenching and shoring standards.
· Direct, teach and guide laborers.
· May support Laborer at numerous job sites as needed.
· May complete physical tasks including laying pipe and hand grading of job site.
· Provide preventative maintenance (grease and oil) equipment to ensure it is safe and operating properly.
· Document regular maintenance checks to maintain adequate records of equipment performance.
· Perform minor repairs on equipment issues
· Abide by all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as all company safety procedures
Requirements
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Minimum of 1 year of experience working with heavy equipment
· Read and Understand construction plans
· Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment and background in all types of grading, as well as safety standards
· Knowledge and understanding of grades and elevations.
· Knowledge of GPS Equipment
· Ability to maintain, inspect, clean, and occasionally repair pieces of heavy equipment
· Keen attention to detail and situational awareness to maintain the safety of the work environment
· Strong work ethic and physical ability to lift 50+ pounds

Supervisory Responsibility
This position may have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell.
The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Travel
Local travel to various worksites is required.
Required Education and Experience
1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
