JOB SUMMARY:
As a 2nd Shift Lead at USA Industries, you play a pivotal role in our manufacturing process. You're dedicated to ensuring the precision and quality of machined parts through the operation of CNC lathe machines. This dynamic position demands skilled execution of lathing tasks and a steadfast commitment to maintaining stringent quality and safety standards throughout production.
You are responsible for coordinating and delegating the daily activities of machine operators on the 2nd shift, and ensuring that production schedules are met. Your role extends beyond mere supervision; you actively mentor and support operators, providing training, feedback, and guidance to help them excel in their roles.
With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality, you monitor production processes closely, intervening when necessary to address issues and optimize performance. Your strong communication skills enable you to liaise effectively with other departments, ensuring seamless coordination and alignment of objectives across the organization.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

Oversee a team of operators during the second shift, ensuring smooth operations and efficient workflow.

Coordinate and delegate tasks among team members, taking into account individual strengths and workload balance.

Ability to assist in the setup, configuration, and operation of CNC lathe, mill, VTL, or other machinery.

Ability to assist loading materials into the machine and securing them properly.
-
Ability to assist in selecting and installing appropriate cutting tools based on the job requirements and specific materials.
-
Monitor tool wear and assist in making tool changes as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.

Inspect finished parts for accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications.

Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions.
-
Input program codes and adjust as necessary to ensure accurate machining.

Study drawings, schematics, engineering information, or sample parts to determine product dimensions and tolerances, as well as the best method and sequence of operations needed for fabrication.

Collaborate with QC, engineering, and production daily.

Provide guidance and support to operators, assisting with technical challenges, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.

Ensure that all team members adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a secure working environment.

Monitor production progress and performance metrics, making adjustments as needed to meet production targets and deadlines.

Collaborate with other department managers to ensure seamless communication and coordination between shifts.

Conduct regular meetings or huddles with the team to communicate priorities, address concerns, and foster a positive work environment.

Troubleshoot and help find resolutions to issues that may occur during second shift and communicate these issues to the first shift management team.

Train and mentor new team members company policies, SOPs, and PPE mandates, ensuring they are properly onboarded and equipped to perform their roles effectively.

Serve as a point of contact for escalations and resolving conflicts or issues within the team.

Maintain accurate records of production data, including output, downtime, and quality metrics, and provide reports as required.

Continuously seek opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains, implementing best practices to optimize workflow and productivity.

Know and follow all policies that apply to one's job, and maintain the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times.

Execute various tasks, as assigned by your manager, supervisor, or company officer, whether within your standard duties or as requested beyond regular responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
-
High School diploma or GED.
Work Experience
-
5 - 10 years of machining experience in a metal fabricating environment with knowledge of CNC Lathes and Mills.

3 – 5 years of work experience as a lead machinist or similar position is preferred.
Skills
-
Ability to effectively lead and motivate a team, providing guidance, support, and direction to ensure productivity and morale.

Ability to provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior machinists or new team members.

Ability to interpret drawings, use standard precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and check threads.
-
Basic understanding of metals and alloys.
-
Extensive experience with CNC equipment, console programming, tooling, fixturing, speeds & feeds, operating sequences.

Proficient in common arithmetic operations and geometry calculations.

Experience with inspecting first article parts and quality checks on work.

Experience with GibbsCAM programming and editing a plus.

Possess analytical and communication skills.

Ability to multitask, prioritize, and troubleshoot issues effectively.

Must be effective in a fast-paced environment.

Basic understanding of ISO 9001:2015 specifications.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, climb, bend, stoop, push, and pull.

Continuous standing and/or walking.

Moderate physical effort - working frequently with average weights of ten to fifty pounds or continuously with lighter weights.

Good eye/hand/foot coordination and good visual acuity - cannot be colorblind.

Ability to work in a cold, hot, and/or dusty environment, with noisy conditions.

Must be able to become forklift certified.

Must be able and willing to work the 2nd shift and required overtime as per company sales demands.

Must be available to participate in the “Call Out” schedule.

Must be open to work some weekends based on sales demands.
