What The Role Entails
CloudHQ (CHQ) is in search of a Controlling Energy Marshal (CEM) Manager to join our team in Ashburn, VA. This will be part of CHQ’s Energy Control team and will play a crucial role in representing CHQ at the LC campus. The primary responsibility of the CEM will be to oversee activities involving the control of hazardous energy during data center construction and commissioning activities and ensure control of hazardous activities are performed in compliance with the General Contractor’s (GC) LOTO policy, the site-specific LOTO program, regulatory standards, industry best practices, and tenant specifications. Acting as the primary point of contact at the project level, this role will interface with the GC’s energy control team and CHQ’s EHS and Development teams.
What You Will Get to Do
Oversee the GC’s AEM and Electrical Contractor’s Performing Energy Isolation Coordinator(s) (PEIC) during tasks involving control of hazardous energy, equipment start-up and energizations- Ensure regulatory compliance by GC and contractor teams with CHQ’s Control of Hazardous Energy Guidelines, NFPA 70E, relevant local laws and regulations, and site-specific policies and/or programs
- Assist in reviewing qualifications, training, and experience of Authorized Energy Marshals (AEM) and PEIC
- Participate in quarterly CHQ LOTO audits and collaborate with GC’s AEM and construction teams to address identified non-compliance
- Review MOPS and Scripts to ensure proper planning of LOTO activities by GC and/or contractor LOTO teams
- Attend pre-energization inspections and report issues to the GC’s quality control team and CHQ Development team
- Attend MOP dry runs as needed as a resource for the GC and construction teams
- Serve as CHQ’s site-level Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- Coordinate with CHQ Operations and GC where energy isolation activities may impact data center core operations
- Serve as an independent authority for correcting unsafe energy isolation practices during data center construction or commissioning activities
Requirements:
What You Bring To The Role
A minimum of six (6) years of electrical and MEP construction management- Proven record in managing Electrical and/or Mechanical trades in construction
- Has or can obtain within 6 months of employment, one of the following NFPA certifications:
- Certified Electrical Safety Technician (CEST)
- Certified Electrical Safety Worker (CESW)
- Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP)
- Strong ability to interpret drawings and schematics to identify all potential sources and redundancies to ensure planned LOTO activities are effective
- Ability to maintain an advanced working knowledge of Control of Hazardous Energy Guidelines
- Adaptable approach with the ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with a variety of teams
- Extensive knowledge in NFPA 70E, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to construction teams and recommend improvements
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Fluent in English (additional languages a plus)
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365
Our Ideal Candidate Will Also Possess
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or a related degree in science/engineering discipline with coursework in safety is preferred- Master Electrician License is preferred, but not required
