Position Objective Summary:
To perform and coordinate the maintenance, testing, and installation of the Cooperative's transmission and distribution protective relay systems and relevant control systems.
I. Education
o Associate's degree in electric Utility Relaying or equivalent with 2 years practical experience.
o 5-6 Years of direct relevant experience with utility protective relay installation and testing may substitute for the education requirement.
II. Experience and Knowledge
· Direct experience with SEL relays, RTACs, and meters is required.
· Must be able to perform mathematical computations necessary to implement recloser and relay settings.
· Computer literacy with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
· Experience with software such as Cooper recloser and regulator programs is desired.
III. Mental and Physical Requirements
The mental and physical requirements for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Must possess the ability to communicate to exchange information clearly and concisely with the position's supervisor, employees, Cooperative members, and the public.
· Must be able to read and understand electric utility blueprints and schematics.
· Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
· Must have the ability to perform mathematical computations necessary to program and test electrical controls.
· Work is both inside and outside with considerable exposure to outdoor winter and summer temperatures.
· Must have and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license and operate a motorized vehicle without the assistance of another employee.
· Must possess the physical strength to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. of materials/equipment without external assistance of other personnel or mechanical aids.
· Must be able to cross unlevel, wooded, muddy, or otherwise unfavorable terrain and overcome obstacles such as streams, ditches, etc., to access new and existing service locations.
· Must be able to work on a regular and predictable basis.
· Must make and maintain bona fide residential abode within thirty (30) statute miles of assigned office.

B. Directs: Contractors for Doble testing, relay programming assistance
VII. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A. Protective Relaying testing and maintenance 50%
· Responsible for the testing substation protective relays to ensure proper settings, response, and operation as designed and in accordance with industry standards and the Cooperative's testing schedule.
· Responsible for replacing or repairing protective relays that are not operating as designed.
· Responsible for maintaining detailed records of equipment testing, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
· Responsible for maintaining detailed knowledge of each substation's unique protection systems and how to restore service safely and in a timely manner.
· Responsible for retrieving and reviewing relay events to ensure proper operation of the protective system.
· Responsible for the maintenance of protective relays and controls and deployment of mobiles.
· Responsible for repairs on power transformers, Load Tap Changers, breakers, Motor operators, and associated controls.
· Assist with maintaining accurate drawings with field markup corrections when preforming cooperatives testing schedule and general relay maintenance.
· Assist with maintaining inventory records to support protective systems.
B. SCADA 25%
· Responsible for the field wiring of SCADA points to RTU's
· Responsible for the field commissioning of SCADA points.
· Responsible for maintaining working knowledge of programming RTU's.
· Responsible for maintaining a skill level with the Survalent SCADA system to perform basic changes.
C. System Maintenance 15%
· Perform substation inspections.
· Assist System Techician with the programming settings for regulator controls and the maintenance of regulators and controls as needed.
· Assist System Techician with the programming settings into recloser controls and testing to confirm correct operation as needed.
· Assist System Techician with the testing recloser controls in accordance with industry standards and the Cooperative's testing schedule.
· Assist with substation apparatus repairs.
· Maintain skill set to serve as an emergency backup for Meter Technician with installations wiring or meter deployment.
D. General 10%
· Plans, schedules, and seek approval of the supervisor, for contract services needed to maintain Substation system.
· Assists the supervisor in planning the scheduled maintenance for Substations.
· Recommends to supervisor the purchase or lease of equipment to improve the capability and efficiency of the Cooperative to meet its Substation responsibility.
· In rotation as after-hours Transmission System Supervisor on call.
· Maintains appropriate forms and records as required of reporting and control. Improve procedures for efficiency.
· Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
VIII. Relationships
Establishes and maintains the following contacts and relationships for the purpose of coordination and communications:
A.
· - to receive information, instructions, direction, and guidance. To coordinate project requirements and schedules. To inform supervisor of problems, findings and results Assist in testing of equipment and help coordinate the removal and installation of substation equipment. Assist with inventory of required spare equipment and storage.
- Under the guidance of the Engineering Services Supervisor to coordinate the ordering, purchase, and storage of various equipment for maintenance and on-hand spares.
· – To help with testing to ensure Cooperative's testing schedule is maintained and to provide technical knowledge during systems technician absence. To assist with substation apparatus repairs.
– To maintain a working knowledge of meter technician duties to serve during an absence.
· a working knowledge of SCADA equipment communication links and reported data.
B.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $71,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
